If you had permadeath, everyone would be so afraid to die that it would discourage experimentation and risk-taking, which is exactly the *opposite* of what we want. :-)

Don\'t think about \"what would be cool\".... think about the gameplay we want people to have.

That is my advice for Tuesday. :-)

heh, i knew i had read something about this already..
the god thingie is kind of weird though, you play for like 2 years then you decide you\'re strong enough to challenge the gods, but when you do this it doesn\'t matter if you win or lose, your character will be gone anyways..

I am sorry Gronomist, I have trouble with remembering which people are playing opposite gender characters in the game and I get confused with the un-feminine type names.  ;(  My apologies ::bows::

Anyways, not to get off topic,

My thoughts exactly Vengeance. I think very few people think about the overall game when they \"submit\" (yell, shout in caps, demand, same thing) an idea or feature. For example:

\"It would be nice if characters could ride a chocobo-type creature in the game, but of course there would be differences, not cute, not yellow, and hard to tame, blah, blah...it would be a feathered raptor, blah blah...this fits in niceley with your pterosaur, since I am guessing dinosaur-type creatures are common in Planeshift? \"

Vs.

\"It would be soooo cool if when you die, you go back to being level 1 and you drop all your items and money right where you died, so it is up for grabs for anyone who feels like it.

  or:

....That\'s dumb *forum member* !!! (sans smiley faces)  Ever play *dumb game that has nothing to do with PS*?? That system was cool because it delivered a high-voltage electrical shock through the computer screen to permanetly kill the actual player if he died in the game.

Well it wasn\'t I who decided that.
I\'m not even sure if it is true I just overheard it somewhere.
It sounds wierd BUT remember that all developers is proven to be good at what they do so instead of questioning what sounds bad just trust \'em becouse every idea we have for later versions are carfully designed.
Put the pot down, no dont take another puff!, put it down. Thank you.

that\'s why I don\'t really believe something like that might be implemented :/

but that\'s clearly encouraging power-leveling, as in \"do it if you want to finish the game\"
*sigh* finishing mmorpg... there\'s something wrong with that....

I\'d be quite happy being the new God and ruling PS.... And I\'m gonna power-level anyway so it don\'t make any difference. :D

Why do you think the challenge has to be a fight, or fight only?
Maybe its also a qestionare about the world? (You know, like in muds, when you can become a \"god\" or master, when you know the world good enough?)

there\'s a difference between becoming god/master and \'beating the game\' :/

I have played muds only for short time, but IIRC you needed to have done nearly all quests, got a high expierience level and a high value for exploration to become a master.
To me, this sounds very much like beating the game.

to me \'beating the game\' sounds like finishing it, and I just don\'t like the idea of \"finishing\" in mmorpg
but that\'s just me.

got\'ya! So it\'s easier to become master by power-leveling. If yer roleplaying life, yer losing something.
