Go Freelancers!!
« on: December 16, 2003, 02:24:46 am »
I\"m proud of the freelancers who do not with to reside with any guild. With a guild your restricted to doing this and going to meetings and all that nonsense. I mean who needs a meeting, just discuss it in game. Being a freelancer, you don\'t have to go to meetings, or vote to something in the guild. Your given the liberty to play how you want to play. Of course your going to need help do fight strong monsters, just group with other freelancers, you don\'t need to start a guild. With a guild there\'s always one greedy person who wants everything. Being a freelancer the person you can be greedy is about is yourself.

                               Proud to be a freelancer,
                                        -Kuiper

P.S: These are my opinions, in no way am I trying to disacknowledge any guilds that are here, all the guilds have worked hard and have taken time to organize themselves to make a project. I\'m just here to express myself as a freelancer.

Freelancer huh? Savion thinks the reason people join guilds is because the guild shares the same view as the person. Isn\'t it more fun to be in a group of people just like you, than to live a lonley live of starvation, suffering, and torment?

Now that I think about it, everyone in PS is doomed to that fate anyway ;)

Well, geez, it\'s not like it\'s a twist-your-arm requirement to join a guild. Don\'t mercenaries of some sort count for anything in the game?

Of course, I there is basically no way that someone could become a really strong \"loner\" without joining some  sort of guild sometime.

But then again, it\'s all how you interpret the role playing element, I mean, if your character wants to belong to a guild, then they don\'t really HAVE to do everything their guild tells them to, because if they really cared, would they be skipping meetings? Plus a guild like the Rangers (I havent\' looked at your guild Rangers, just an example) would probably revolve around the definition of a Ranger, odd jobs and mercenary types. Sorta like BOF2 in the beggining...(sure wish there was a dog race)

Anyways, Kupier, I\'d like to know how you plan on any decent leveling up, since I hear that the mobs in the game will be akin to, Angry Mob (Russian Revolution(s)) - Kremlin (You) So, surviving an attack of the 5 Rattacks at level 1 with a (club) would be out of the question. Ooh, more monsters pop into my head... :)

Yes I admit the freedom is an appealing idea. But freelancing has its downs too. Firstly being alone and doing stuff on your own isn\'t as great as it sounds. Imagine if you had a birthday party with a huge cake then you could:

1. invite no-one and have all the cake yourself. Most freedom and apparently personal benefit but boring and who knows what gifts you might have got had you invited some people over?

2. You could invite people and eat a lesser portion of the cake and have to comply with others wishes about the party games and stuff. Less immediate benefit but you can never predict the prezzies can you;). And certainly more fun(unless you guests are duds in which case its your fault that you chose the wrong bunch).

Some humans might go for option 1 but most will support 2 as \"man is a social animal\". Plus you\'ll never have the impact and power in the game as you could progressing to higher ranks in a powerful and populous guild.

I am not saying that there are no down sides to being part of a society of some sort and those have been enumerated in the first post. So basically everyone is free to  make their own decision. Both are equally good or bad, its just a matter of taste. Like Cola Vs Orange Soda;)

Auran. No More.
Forget you ever knew me kid.

Well Auran, there is always the option of horrible, horrible betrayl. I mean, there are enough guilds around to join, so \"hopping\" around getting kicked out for being a jerk, deserter, theif, sychophant, e.t.c. You could amount a great deal of wealth, experience and eventually fame as a big time jerk (which is always a plus). It shouldn\'t be too hard to get out of a guild and even if you end up with duds, there is always the option of using them as living sheilds for a while.

Option -2: Eat the cake yourself, then invite all your friends, have them bring prezzies, and tell them you are too poor to buy a cake and then have them invite you to all of their parties out of pity.

I think it sounds good for some  people.

you guys just had to burst my joy bubble...

After saying all that after you bursted my bubble of joy, happiness, and good things to come, I might think of joining a guild. After saying how good freelancing is maybe no one would accept me anymore, not even that mercernary guild, oh well...whatever happens, happens.

POP! Kaboom! :P

Thanks Harwen I understand.

And Windwalker I actually thought about trying to rejoin FSO again, but I\'ve been kind of low-key about it for sometime. Talk to me later.

playing mmorpg\'s is all about teamwork, and interaction with other players...

of course you \"freelancers\" could all be friends, but your community will not be as tight knit, nor as trusty as the guild community... IMHO, deliberatly dismissing all notions of guilding is stupid...
