Weapon realism?
« on: December 19, 2003, 04:15:59 am »
I\'ve been reading threads about flails and whips, and came across something...what about real life weapon realism? Or at least something close. Say that you reach a certain level in using whips, you can gain an ability that gives a % chance to wrap around a targets legs and trip them, or disarm their current weapon. Or you gain an ability for the flail, which only works when the target has a shield, that gives a percent chance to negate the block percentage or whatever. But the real problem I see with this is that its gonna have to take A LOT of animation work...

i dont think we should just \"learn\" stuff at certain levels. I mean learning a technique has nothing to do with your level. there is nothing stoping a level 1 person from learning a technique that binds someone... WHICH IS A GREAT IDEA I MUST SAY!!!1 Lol. But seriously i see you put some thought into this but really levels shouldnt matter with learning something. You should have to study from a master or some old dude to learn special attacks like that. It would be cool to travel 2000 miles to an old guy who lives on a mountain to train with him and learn techniques. Would make a surreal expericence if the landscape good enough... 2ndly i like the idea of animation being in the attacking. Instead of the basic i move my sword foward and its supposed to hit you. I have thought about these kinds of things and if they made 3 movies for every type of attack you did (including if you block or stuff like that) and connected them seamlessly it would look like a battle movie which would be awesome! Great post Just needs a little perfecting! :D

ok so lets refine this :P , lets say, theres an experience bar that shows how much knowledge of  the weapon you have, shows that you can wield it well, etc. So when you visit a master at a certain weapon, he\'ll only teach the skill/feat/ special ability when you have enough \"experience\" with the chosen weapon. Then once you learn it, you can teach it to other players that have enough experience. These skills or whatever can range from new abilities, to just enhancing the damage you do with that weapon

YES! thats great idea. Once you have enough experience with a weapon it would make sence you could use it like money to learn something. that would be great! Great idea Dragoon! Keep it up!

eh? something\'s wrong with that...
It would be better if you could learn the weapon thingy when your \"experience bar\" is high enough, but not to use it like money. So when you learn it, you won\'t lose experience in the weapon skill. Instead you could \"use like money\" some training points (there will be something like that, right?).

ok wrong analogy. More like a permision card signed by your mommy that says you can learn this feat now. you just give the card to the big man at the desk and you can learn how to Wh**p A**! :P

Dragoon nice idea i understand the basic of where u are coming from. i know this would take a long time to make possible ,butthink of it this way this would be one of the greatest games if it had awsome techniques like that. whemy keep on this forum and we might be able to think of a good way to get the xp and (spend it or keep it) to learn the technique.

Great idea

So basically, the first way I can think of getting weapon experience is killing badies. Another one i can think of is learning from fellow players. What if, there were different kinds of classes of weapon experience. Like, one enemy requires a sort of \"piercing\" attack with the weapon you have, so if you have a sword, you stab the monster with it. Or a more common one would be slashing dmg and so forth. How much experience you get depends on how \"hard\" the monster is. Once you gain enough experience in the category it requires, a master can teach it to you.

A way to implement the special feats into the game is how SWG did it. You get these macros(or whatever you call them) and can put them at the top of the screen and assign a hotkey to it. So when your fighting, you can select for example...disarm, and it appears in a window until it is used. If you have more than one you want to use, they stack and happen one after the other.

I dunno, maybe as I said earlier - you may use training points.
I think you\'ll be using these points when learning from someone that is teacher. Why not use them in here as well?
