WoTC Forums and Why They Suck
« on: December 21, 2003, 06:59:16 am »
WoTC stands for Wizards of the Coast for those ignorant people out there.
Advantages:
1. You will most likely get any questions you have answered, with the swarm of people there.

Disadvantages:
1. Posts get buried the moment they are made.
2. No community; very few people with any personality. I know that the Werefrog speaks in third person and Cli\' Van Aquanova is a major merfolk fan, but... that\'s about it.
3. You are very, very likely to be ignored
4. Many people means many many stupid people
5. They are slow and unreliable
6. Sometimes when you post, it gives you a page not displayed thing, or nothing loads, and posts take so long to register, and the \"60 seconds between posts\" thing doesn\'t always work, so you will make double posts over and over until you learn to copy and paste, trust the system, and check back later.
7. I don\'t like them.

Bioware\'s Neverwinter Nights forums are the same in most respects. I hate slow forums... ><

I don\'t think this forum is at all like that. They arn\'t slow, people don\'t get ignored, and there\'s loads of different types of people and personality here.

They do get one point though- the Page Not Found thing. :P ...sometimes.

yes, and I don\'t like them.
I thought of another thing: The people who make the game and moderate the forums never really post. We once got the creative directer to post after a 200-page (edit, 200 post, not 200 page!) thread about how much we hated his decisions. It made sense after he posted, though.

that\'s true, i\'ve played many games where the devs just never posted on the forums, no matter how much people were asking them to explain something. that\'s another reason why i like planeshift so much, the ability to actually speak with the devs :)

Well they have to be since they\'re not getting paid. In most games developers get payed to... develop!, not to actually give a sh*t.

...I\'d have to disagree with you on that one...
