Bloodlines
« on: December 23, 2003, 12:14:30 am »
I think it would be cool if in the game you could get married and have kids. Then when your character dies, which should happen from old age, you can become your kid. So instead of making a whole new character which would have to make a whole new story and reputation, you would get to be the child of your old character and live off his fame, sorta. You would be able to follow in your old charatcers footsteps if you want to. You could live out your whole bloodline and create a really long family history for you charcter. This is just an idea that can be built on. So, what do you guys think?

I actually rolled over this thought when I was theorizing an idea for a game (but it was more of a simulation type of game, rather than a MMORPG).

I don\'t really think this idea would fit into PS, since when you die there is a process to revive yourself so taking form as your heir doesn\'t really make much sense.

Putting characters on a clock is dumb, and it would make more people choose longer-lived races.

Yea but characers that live forever takes the realism out of the game. It also gives no point to longer living characters.

Yeah, you are right. But realism out of WHAT game again? A game with magic and dragons running around. Very real, I think The Sims Forums is a better place for this.  :P

There SHOULDN\'T be a point to longer living characters other than storyline/flavor. Then they\'d be giving up racial bonuses for longevity.
In addition to the previously explained stupidity of your idea.

By realism I meant that the game is an rpg and you are supposed to feel like you actually are the charcter you play. Please don\'t post if your gonna be ignorant. Why is everyone on the forums so rude?

*P.S. I also just wnated to quote something I found on the PS site that backs up what I am saying: \"Our objective is to create a persistent world in a fantasy setting, in which every player will create his character and will be able to live, explore, and interact with maximum realism.\"

Realism? I thought that I had to go to the Sims forum for that!

I kinda like the idea, Shadowfax
but it would make people choose elves just for their slow/never aging
There was some thread like that long ago, there was idea to let people decide if they want their char to age or not (at char creation)
I agree with Shadowfax on that realism thingy
magic/different races is just different world theme
it\'s like you go to other dimension where you can see magic and dragons and stuff. Still there\'s stuff like fall damage and aging - that\'s realism

Thank you. I guess I was wrong. Not everyone here is so mean to people who are just suggesting ideas. Draklar showed the faults of the idea without calling me stupid or completely trashing my idea. Ok maybe it wasn\'t a great idea but you don\'t have to hold it against me for giving it.

Can\'t we just have a choice? Some where down the line you retire your old character and as there will be multiple characters per account you create a new character based on your retired one?

When you retire a character it is aged but you can still bring it back into the game or chose for it to pass away to free up a character space in your account?

What about the married part. Sure you can hook up with another player in game and agree to be married, but is there others ways this could be handled ?(

P.S.
Shadowfax whats it really matter who flames you as long as you post your idea\'s, yeah they can be rude but if what you post helps the game by inputing something new or by being way out off the mark which highlights whats not going to work. It all helps the game even the repeated requests and question we see over and over again may help in some way it shows that the subject is worth noting!
My in game character\'s are Wolfshade and Kayto! no they wont try to join two different Guilds  !!!!

I am against this idea because it brings up the old argument
Realism vs. Game play
This would take away from people I mean how would you like it you spend 5 years creating a good characters but then you die and you have to start over again. Also if it must be realistic then you wouldn?t keep all of your previous characters s money you would only keep about half. I am not going to flame you but the first RPG this is put into will be only played by fools believing that they will keep all there stats.

The way I see it:
I don\'t like it, cause my spouse would always distort my genes and the new me would always be different. Like having a Random option at char creation.  fej!

Not to mention everyone would have to find a mate...destroying love(and related) by mass calculability.
