Certain Classes Start With Certain Equipment
« on: January 03, 2004, 03:03:04 am »
How about different classes get different equipment? Like Battlemage starts with a robe, staff, and..well....whatever teaches you magic(levels, I think). A knight start with a sword,axe,spear,whatever...and..light armor..maybe. And vise versa.

I think this would work well for the predefined classes (ie quick creation) but we would need something different for custom characters.

A possibility would be that all of the starting equipment has the same total value at the shops, so a custom created character has x amount of tria to allocate to starting equipment (cannot keep the cash, must select items).

But yea, I like the idea... allows people to start using what they want immediately.

either that, or a char simply starts with basic clothes, and some tria, and gets started very close to a general shop.

Some tria?If they were to get their begining equipment from a general store, they would have to have quite a lot. Knights, for example. Say they start with a longsword, and...leather armor(if there is one). A full leather set would cost at least 85 tria(Although thats not much to my eyes). Consider thinking on the prices.

If you want cash take the \'rich\' or \'very rich\' bonus.
This makes for easy exploiting though... Someone could create 20 chars with both (if possible) the rich and very rich attribute and then gather all that cash on one character.  ?(
The devs might want to have a look into this.

There are no classes.  And the money bonus is a nice boost for a newbie, but is overall very insignificant.  You are only going to have one account anyway, with multiple players in it.  But I\'m sure the amount of players in your account is limited.  It\'s still exploitable, but to really gain anything from it, would require just as much work as actually legitimately earning the money.

i dont think 400 tira isnt alot as Uber weapons would cost what .... 50 K ? or we would be trading items instead and only use your [insert cruncey here ] to repair items ... like in d2 ....

I think the best idea is to give the character some money. 1st there are no classes, its a mix. 2nd there is no 2nd, it enough with the 1st.

Actully, there are classes. Warlord, battlemonk, knight, thief, and so on.(Although I don\'t recall seeing \"thief\").

no...bad idea, how bout everyone starts out with the same basic clothing (like Jessyn said) and work for their money, like in almost all other games. Why get free stuff at the beggining?

Actually there are No Classes what you were refering to was the quick creation area.

In this screen you can choose one predefined Path from the ones availables: Street Warrior, Enchanter, Fighting Monk, Warlock, Knight, Rogue. As soon as you click one od those, you will get a predefined set of stats and skills, one advantage and one job. PlaneShift doesn\'t have \"classes\" , what are you choosing in this screen is a predefined set of stats and skills, but you are not bound to that profession when increasing in experience

Actually :P
the whole point is there won\'t be quick creation in future releases, therefore no class picking.
