Cooking in a dish.
« on: January 06, 2004, 02:06:59 am »
When I cook in an MMORPG, I\'m mad that I can\'t combine some foods and put them together to make a dish of food rather than just having them all seperate. I think this would be a unique cooking idea. Unless it\'s already been seen or already used. But I\'m sure I haven\'t seen an MMORPG or MMOG use dishes.

Now this only works in theory. Its fair because the increase in exp is only 10% and people who want that extra little push would go for it. I only say in theory because it only works on a calculator.

Example:
Main Dish = 100 exp
Side Dish = 10 exp
Side Dish = 10 exp
Drink = 5 exp

In a dish: 100+10+10=120+10%+1% = 133.32 exp

Not Dish: 100+10+10+5 = 125 exp

*Note you lose the 5 exp as an item alone but it becomes 1% when in a dish.

Also the dish it uses can be crafted. Wooden Plate, Ceramic Plate, Metal Plate with Gold rims, I don\'t know, I\'d just thought if there were plates, plates would make good crafting items.

The only flaw I found with this is, what if the drink gives more exp than the main dish? This means you can get more exp having a dish on its own, than having in a dish. If there are any good mathmeticians here, can they try to find a change that still makes it fair?

woah thats a little on the complex side there but from what i understand its a pretty good idea. I dont know why you would gain exp from eating tho... Eating on dishes looks pretty at that so i guess eating on plates would be cool...

no you don\'t get exp by eating. I was just saying that you get your base exp then +10% for having it on a dish then +1% bonus for a having a drink on it.

I guess eating from a plate maybe give you more HP because its cleaner?

when you can chose what you want as a main dish and side dish, the possibilities are only endless to what are considered what types of food.

Maybe one day you want chicken, with salad, pasta, and wine?

Maybe Kran want: A main course of delightful Amethyst to go with some sweet rubies and healthy green emeralds, gulping it down with a nice warm cup of molten lava.

that would be a good idea, but i think u should be able to cook the food, then to put it on a plate would give say 10% exp of the total of what ur puting on there, and different plates add different exp, NOTE: if ya run outta names for plates add +1 meaning it adds 5% to the plate which would help

example: 45 +15 +35 = 95 exp for food, + 5 = 100 exp for food w/ drink, the stuff is made for the dish and is a total of 100 exp, put it on a plate and it gives ya 10% of the total giving you 10 exp for just a basic wood plate,
15% for a carved wood plate (wood plate with carving on it), 20% for a oak plate, 25% for plain ceramic, 30% for a ceramic design (just like the carved wood but painted instead of carved), 35% for a +1 ceramic design, ect.

no no your right of course the food should be cooked first. Unless there\'s something raw like salad.

And yes I agree, the better the material of the plate, the more exp should be added.

this kind of cooking would actually give use to plates, most games it either just loot (which usualy sucks) or for looks around NPC houses, and thats dull, this kind of cooking i\'d like to see in most MMORPG games, it would improve cooking abit more (at least if u got exp from cooking it and such)

I think it seems like a good idea in theory, but it might be kinda diffucult to do in game. unless you did it like the cooking in rune scape, now befour freak out, the game was horrable but the cooking system really made sence.

There you would have to combine basic food together with other foods to make more complex dishes, like meat and a potato combined with a bowl would make a a stew. I think that type of system would go good with your idea where you could combine all of the elements together for a complate meal, including drink. I also like the idea of the quality of dish effecting the XP value of the dish, but i think it should effect the regenerative value of the meal also
You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone

I also think the roonskaipe cooking system makes the most sense, because that\'s what cooking really is. Just mixing ingredients to make a dish.

Roonskaipe system: I get flour and water, then mix it together and make bread, then bake the bread.

More creative idea. Get flour and water, mix it together then add different spices to the dough, then bake it, then add dry spices to the cooked bread or put toppings like butter or something.

And again I to like the plate idea. Cook for crafting, makes the dish look nice, and adds a little exp for cooking because of presentation.

Admit it, the food has to look nice. There aren\'t many foods in the world that look like butt and have the most wonderful taste in the world.

I like the idea. Players will actually have a choice when they order food, and restaurants can have their own menu and \"Daily special\".

exp from eating!
« Reply #12 on: January 13, 2004, 07:42:53 am »
Hmm.. should you get exp from eating food because you can taste the food? You might be able to see what it is made of and how it is made by tasting it or looking at it.

So  if you can be able to get exp from eating you can get only a small amount of exp.

for example. making a roast chicken or something you get 500 exp and then eating it you get only about  5 -20 exp because maybe you might be think about the food or think about something else.

PS: Roonskaipe? isnt it Rune scape?

umm for some reason when we put down Rune scape it makes up the name game-that-shall-not-be-named

:D seems like they dont like Rune scape :D

maybe instead of following the roonscape way of cooking we should make our own way. maybe you have cooked a steak people. have you ever really burned it? Most people undercook food. So maybe when we dont have a high enough level in cooking we undercook an item of food and then the \"victim\" who eats it gets a desease. that would also put a whole new layer into the game which is desease.

That\'s a good idea; under cooking it. But if its undercooked can\'t you keep cooking it till its done? Or is it once its cooked, its cooked?
