When planeshift gets a lot of people , and 1 server cant handle it, instead of making more servers jus make 1 Super-Duper-Fast-Ultra-Mega Server, so that the people won\'t feel seperated when someones(like a friend for example) playing on a different server. Also, having 1 server also makes it feel like a \"World\". Think about how it would be like with alot of people palyin together.

Umm... im no good with words.

i dont think so.... if there is one problem with the one server then no one can play untill its fixed. Servers can be a bit unreliable and sketchy at times so just making one is suicide. Plus multiple servers are a good idea because if a server is closer to you than another one the speed is just so much better. Someone in Germany may be playing at the best rate possible while someone in Hawaii is getting lag out the A**. So multiple servers are a must have since everyone in the planeshift community lives in a different place.

I also don\'t like multiple servers, it would cut the community up nice and good...I don\'t know if it would be possible since I know nothing about it, and I mean absolutely nothing...but couldn\'t like different areas be on different servers, and they would auto-log in/out there?

whemyfield, with such fast servers as today, there won\'t be any lag even if people playing are in different parts of the world.  you might be thinking of games such as multiplayer where some player is hosting a game. this may determine your dowload speed, etc etc. but not fast game servers.

i wanted to suggest that when the current (one Lanx) server gets overcrowded.

divide PS into areas and have each area on one server - auto login/logout of course enabled.

but i don\'t think this is going to be a near-future problem

well, what some other games did is divided the world into many maps, and gave each map its own server.... this makes less lag per map, and people are still able to comunicate with people in other servers (maps)...

that would be the best option because it wouldnt divide up the community which is what this game is about really 8)

On the other hand, splitting the servers up like that would prohibit users on different servers talking to eachother. It would be realistic though, but from a community-perspective, which was brought up in this discussion, it could make things worse.
Or.. better, who knows?

Edit: there could be a master server ( i guess there has to be anyway ) that handles all chatting.. (and forwarding)
