Not for children's eyes
« on: January 15, 2004, 06:59:47 pm »
Hi! i am a new PS player and was wondering if there was any way I could convince the creaters of PS to (on the next version of PS) get rid of the pornographic picture you get on the loading screen. Kinda gross and I have some moral objections to it. thanks

hehe.... I remember someone made thread like that in the past :P

so you might expect answers like
\"there\'s not that much nudity there\" or
\"just change the pic file if you don\'t like it\"

First lets define pornography:

from wikipedia.org: Pornography is the representation of the human body or human sexual behaviour with the goal of sexual arousal.

From allwords.com: books, pictures, films, etc designed to be sexually arousing, often offensive owing to their explicit nature. Often shortened to porn or porno

From barnaby.com: Sexually explicit pictures, writing, or other material whose primary purpose is to cause sexual arousal

I can\'t see how in the name of all that is holy you can think that this splashscreen is \"pornographic\". Come on, don\'t tell me the planeshift splashscreens \"primary purpose is to cause sexual arousal\".

If you find the splashscreen offensive, and give some reasons why it is so,  I\'m sure the developers will listen to you. But pornographic it is not.

Hi. I am sorry if the images have offended you.   The later versions of PlaneShift will allow the user to customize a lot of the graphics so any image you do not like you can simple replace with your own.   However, it is not our goal to make PlaneShift children friendly and we take no responsiblity for that.  It is up to the parent to decide if/how/when their children use the computer and what they are doing with it.  That includes PlaneShift.

Online games are very hard to place a rating on.  The online games I have bought are often rated as saying \"Rating durning online game may change\".

Possibly one of the strangest topics I\'ve ever read here! :) I find it quite saddening that you would consider such things as \'bad\' for a child. He/she was born naked, you know... far worse, according to that logic, than this splash screen.

But each to their own I guess. :)

Haha...I remember someone complaining about the AB one, and she was wearing a lot more then people at beaches do...seriously dude, do you go outside?  Watch television?  If so, spend your time complaining about them since it is much worse.

I\'ve never even noticed the beginning screen come to think of it...

I see this loading picture as Art, and also as not pornographic at all. Do you mask your children\'s eyes when you walk by a monument including nude statues (usually foutains)? Do you forbid them to watch some 19th century paintings at the museum because you can see the butt of the model?

I wouldn\'t want my children to watch porn movies at 10, but I wouldn\'t want them either to reach 16 and not know what somebody from the opposite sex looks like, there\'s a balance to find.

I have no problem with any objection this person may have. If they are offended by anything they have their right to be.   However, I don\'t think that we will be making any changes to make PlaneShift more child friendly ( as is our right ).

It\'s up to the person to decide what he feels is appropiate for themselves and their children.
