If the developers implement some kind of censoring system ingame, I hope they do it sensibly. Some games have such strict rules... like, you can\'t say \'damn\' for example... but then they miss other swearwords which are much much worse. Perhaps it would be better to include some rule in the TOS of the game which reminds players to keep their language clean, and leave it up to the GMs to kick people who repeatedly ignore this.

If the problem turns out to be frequent though, perhaps censoring would be a better, easier-to-handle option.

I think an optional modifiable filter is a better solution than suppress every sware. First there is the muliple language problem: a sware in one language can be very near a normal word in another language.
Second i think there needs to be a little sware. Its very hard to express stronger bad feeling without swares. (Think about what a little damn tells you, now say it without using a sware.)

The filter should have an editable local list of the swares with words to replace them or advice to remove/mask them.
for example:
 \"sware1\" \"word\"
 \"sware2\"
as a list, which replaces sware1 with word and removes/masks sware2.

This way everyone can adapt it to the level of swaring he is willing to accept.

Edit: I forgot also to mention that sware in one context can be the a  suitably word in another context.

Yeah, it should be optional, I hate seeing \"****\" or \"dang\" so much...otherwise, since it bothers many people apparently, it should be there.

It should be client-side and customizable.

Indeed, however a few words should already come censored.  It would be included in the \'manual\' as well.

Btw, here in the \'States it is spelt \"swear\". :P

K, here\'re some Planshift \"swear words\" for ya:

Goofitz = F**k - Goofitz off, fool!
Krell - S**t - Ahh, krell!
Bumff = As***e - You krelling bumff!

Sexist and racist terms should not be permitted in any language. Players who insist on using them should be banned, krelling bumffs.

heck if the program was smooth enough maybe golbez could get his extreme role playing dreams to come true. People would cuss and the words would come out in a role playing kinda of way. (pardon my french but im getting the example through) \"Damn that bastard killed me\"   \"On laanx\' Name!!! That ruffian has slayed me for the last time!!!\"

Maybe the devs should develop one for crystal blue and we can spend the time between the release testing the system. That way when whateverblue comes out after crystal blue there will be a pretty good anti swear system developed and by then a pretty good game should have already been established. Better to start a seamless system now while the game is still young.

Yes i think censoring words should be implemented, but i hope nobody in the PS family is one of those people where all you see is **** and ***** and ******* etc. comming from their mouth.
Also it cant be too strict, i know a few games where you cant say something like \"ahh look at that ball of fire\" cause of the \"ball\" *wink wink*

Censoring is pointless and does not work.  There are too many ways around a filter, and trying to compensate is both a fruitless endeavor and can cause problems with regular communication.  Instead you just have a chatlog capability and rules against being excessively vulgar with suspension/ban penalties.
Ninjas have feelings too.  Mostly they feel like dancing.

That\'s true Wedge, but if it makes so many people happy so that they shut up just to have the option to censor some words, then I don\'t see why not let them.
