chat-system rethought
« on: January 20, 2004, 11:44:27 pm »
Something that came to my mind just minutes after playing PS:

Wouldn\'t it be better to default chatting to the /say-style? I find it rather annoying to \"hear\" people talking at the other end of town. Even shouting should be limited to a certain range. To contact certain far-away people it\'d be nicer to use the directed-speech options like /tell. It might even make sense to have a seperate chat-interface for non-game-world related chat.

I think that\'d make things more realistic and convenient, don\'t you?

Yeah, good ideas, but don\'t worry about it...the whole chat system is going to be a lot different (easier/better) in the next release. :)

anyways, there may be a server with these more realistic options in the future. and i think /shout will already be more restricted to a smaller area in CB, but as the world is so small right now, and only so few people play the game they made it like this.

That\'s more realistic, but also kind of sad ..
At least you guys won\'t have to listen to my dumb comments that much any more. *g*

I gotta say that box is a little annoying... maybe chat should be more integrated into the playing zone?

Perhaps like the Blizzard games - when you hit \"Enter\" a little cursor comes up and you can type out your message, then press \"Enter\" again to send it.  It\'d be a lot nicer than a huge box.  I don\'t like the chat system either.

As this is all going to change in the next release this topic is sort of deprecated already. Let\'\'s just stop this here.

It works almost like that now in the development version.  Except it just moves focus to the chat box.  So you hit Enter, type your message, hit enter to send.
