I like being unique too but I think it had its limits. As a general rule anything that claims to be 100% unique and new is usually a lie.
Like in another thread where katanas were mentioned as being japanese - if you go back far enough all weapons are linked to a certain culture! Certainly we can agree that there will be swords in the game and yet many other games do have swords in them.
The terms \"summoning\" and \"undead\" are actually in the game already - you can read about them in the Char Creation part.
I like the idea of putting a new spin on old ideas (which has been pointed at by multiple people on this thread) so by all means change the names and certain pieces of lore around but you have to have some of the basics!
Having a Dark Way in magic without undeads is like having a fantasy game without magic at all!
If you have death and you have life, a common fantasy is going to be bringing people back from the dead (Crystal Way) and making zombie-like undead creatures and skeletons (Dark Way)
I consider undeads and skeletons to be generic enough to use in game without saying you\'re taking it from anther game or that they\'re over done because of how simple the concepts behind them are.
Undeads are rotting corpses - we have death, we have decay, we have a Dark Way - why not undeads?
Skeletons are the corpses w/o the flesh - we have corpses, some of them probably have bones - why not have skeletons?
I can see how a vampire might be too specific and I agree that they should probably not be in the game unless lots of writing goes into it but change it around and have a blood sucking creature and you have the concept - maybe you could have some weird, extra-creepy diaboli cult that drinks blood and does freaky rituals? Play with it and be creative!
Any words like necromancer I feel most strongly about. Necromancer is a general term that is derived from greek words. If you go and create an evil char that can summon creatures and make up a new name for him you haven\'t created a new job, he\'s just a necromancer with a different name! Calling the idea your own is silly, because everyone can obviously see where that so-called original idea came from.
Know what I mean? I think I understand where you are coming from and I think that we may actually *agree* to some extent
