Multiple Servers, One game.
« on: January 26, 2004, 04:35:19 am »
My first post! Yaaaaaaaaaay!   -ahem- :P

Ok, this is my wish for the game. I want multiple servers running PS, but still everyone is playing on the same game.

To do this, it might be a good idea to dedicate a server to one city of the world of PS, or a county of cities.

When a player crosses over a boundry, he will be loaded onto the resident server, but can still send tells to other players on a different city or county which is run on a different server.

Players can set a home in the city that they have the best ping at and have the option to start there.
Beware that I am distorted in my wording if you do not understand me at all.

Well that is the plan i think. but you\'d better not post that here because most of these lunitics want one server (blasphemy i say). I think mulitple servers are a wonderfull idea especially for the reliability factor and the speed is a bit better on mulitple servers than just one (mostly). Good first post but some advice, do your homework before you speak.

Thats how Earth and Beyond works basically.  the downsides, there are actual load time usually about 3 minutes to cross zones, and from a server stand point, you most likely want all the player data on all the servers which isnt really efficent, space wise.

pros, the game can go on if a zone crashes, and the load is spread out over multipul machenes
