I need advice
« on: January 29, 2004, 07:59:26 pm »
I was hoping all you experienced people out there could advise me. Here\'s the situation. I want to start a new guild. I have the site created, although it\'s at a relatively simple stage right now, but I guess most guilds start out that way. Anyway, I want to know what you people think, is it worth creating a new guild? I mean, I really want to create it, but if it\'s just gonna be a total flop, then I\'m not too thrilled. No flames please, constructive criticism only. ;)

Personally I think there are too many guilds right now for a game in such a young stage of development. My advice would be to join an already existing guild, or simply go it alone for a while, at the very least untill CB is up and running and you are comfortable with the change. :)

huh? it would be easier to know what guild are you talking about...
how could one know if it\'s gonna be flop or not...
but make oryginal concept, give a lot of effort into it, don\'t get discouraged by Mogura... and it\'ll be alright ;)

The problem is, how does one come up with an original concept anymore? They\'re all taken. I did brainstorm this guild for a while and every idea I have come up with is mine, and mine alone, but there are still depressing similarities to it and other guilds. That\'s my problem... I feel like I\'ll be thrown aside as just another guild. I dunno... I could pm the link to you guys, so you could give me more intelligent advice, what do you think?

If you now join a guild, the people of this guild won\'t trust you very much. They would be uncertain about you because they expect you to start a new guild when the opportunity arises. But if you make a guild, and you should fail and then join an already existing guild, then they would trust you a lot more because they should know you can\'t lead a guild then, and probabely won\'t try it again.
So I advice you to start your own guild.

yeah, making lawful-neutral guild is a best way to be oryginal right now :)
you need a visible goal tho...
I\'d say you might try to strict the law in Yliakum. Protect guilds that are being attacked for selfish reasons, like need of domination. For money that is ;)
Protect the peace but not to the point of being fanatics.

Yeah, that was my intention. I\'m usually a very wordy person, but for some reason I totally froze up on the whole \"goal\" thing. I know what I mean, but I can\'t seem to convey it. Anyway, what did you think of the rest of the site?

well try to make the goal visible, it is quite important. Can\'t say much about the website. For now simple, but that might be good.
However boards:
the text on the top is black on black (like the date), it isn\'t visible at all.
Change the color of the whole boards too. Black is connected with evil. Try to make it look somewhat royal.
Can\'t think of anything else right now...

My opinion is if you can\'t think of anything new or original that is not found in a current guild, do not bother, just join it...of course, if you do not like the current leader of the guild or how things are ran,  then that is different :)

I would not discourage you from creating a guild, but I would suggest that you join another guild first.  Try to find one with similar values and goals to the one you will create.  Once the game has developed more, meet other people with common interests.  Stay in touch with them.  Perhaps when you feel the need to break apart from the guild you have joined, make plans with the guild leader about creating a subguild or an allied guild under your leadership.  This way you will instantly have an alliance as well as camaraderie with your former guild members.  I\'m sure during this time you could also find someone worthy to help you lead the guild.

In many MMOGs, people who join one-game-guilds or clans tend to guildhop/clanhop.  Especially when leadership goes bad, or when there is tension between other members.  Sometimes players will also leave to join a stronger guild.  The leadership of a guild often makes or breaks a guild.  People will join, but it\'s up to you to get them to stay.

If you had a player base to start off with, instead of starting from scrap...  I would say that creating the guild right away would be a great idea for you.

No matter what though, nothing should stop you from creating the guild you want.  The number of guilds in a game is irrelevant, as well as the similarities in goals or values.

Good luck!

I think there is only one guild that is lawfull neutral: BloodClaw Inc. but we won\'t accept you because you\'ll leave us.
And there is also a guild for protecting the weaker: the defenders, but they seem a bit inactive to me.

Since there is not a good guild for you now, you\'ll have to start your own guild. (maybe after the CB release)

Bloodclaw is lawful-neutral? pretty weird... I thought you are completely \"mind our own business\"
And Defenders aren\'t inactive... it\'s just that some guilds don\'t accept every single guy that asks to join :P
Still I see some of them almost every time I join... in what way are they inactive?

and he already started guild
quit discouraging him from making his own guild! He seems to be very dedicated into it and has the right to make it without people bugging him... especially that there is no other guild like that yet

and heh... Bloodclaw and his guild are completely different, Taldor
