Not n00bish imo. And I said they were a guild to be reckoned with, but I hardly knew Kada was much of an oldie(time-wise at least; I don\'t know what to think after that long thread about \'Good \'Ol Times) Hehe, my next 2-3 were n00bish in a way.

Hey all!

This wouldn\'t be my first ever post if the bugs forum would let me alert the codies of the \'admin console\' hack. But anyways, ever being the eternal fiddler of files and such, I decided to do something useful now and create a skin.

Starting simple, of course. Seeing how it works and which files are used/how. I\'ve pretty much figured how just 4 skins create all those different skin/hair/eyes/clothes combinations... very clever, well done PS artists!

Now, on to the skin... I was a little disappointed there was no \'snow leopard\' appearance (yet), so, that\'s what I did. This is a female Enkidukai with snowy white fur and starry black clothes. It goes suprisingly well and looks just as good as those that come with the current PS release.

(Note that only you will be able to see the custom file; everyone else will see you using whatever *their* female enkid\' 3 file looks like.)

The file goes in C:\\Program Files\\PlaneShift\\art\\textures\\races\\fenkidukai and overwrites the current Female Enkidukai \'3\' appearance, so back up your old file just in case. For the full skin, all relevant character appearances, meaning eyes, skin and clothes, should be set to 3.

If you like it, I\'ll create more, so throw me some feedback!

[EDIT2: Damn, this forum is wierd. When you click the download link, the URL gets added to the end of Planeshift\'s. Just remove that first bit and click the remaining URL and it should work. Silly forum.]

I\'ve also tried monitoring memory usage which shows you need a lot more memory than the 128Mb I\'ve got at the moment (Yes I know its not alot, I need a new computer).

Well my first post looks quite practical now.

HeHe and to think I\'ve still got that same computer with the same memory and now have very few problems!!

Actually, my first encounter with planeshift was on irc when I started bugging acraig because I was downloading a corrupted file from the server. Took me a while to figure out it was my motherboard going crazy with big files (> 50 MB) when using high-performance kernels.

I also bugged Vengeance for a few days (sorry) because I was getting errors when compiling cvs version (and all those who tried know it can take a few days before every component works well with the other ones).

My First Post
No, its nothing like a tutorial. This is merely a method to give newbs the help they need when they first log in that doesn\'t spam the global channel. However, I\'m conflicted on how I\'d like to see it implemented, any clues? Well, here are my two ideas on the subject:

1) A global /newbie channel, much like /shout other then that can be turned on and off.

2) A /helper command that flags the current player as a newbie helper. Newbs then use the /newbie command to find an online newbie helper. This kind of system could even offer the possibility of a helper ratings and rankings.

Method 1 would be, by far, easier to implement, but more prone to abuse. Method 2 would likely be less prone to abuse, as the helping player has to go out of their way to flag themself; but #2 might be more confusing to the newb, especially if they don\'t have MUDing or MMORPG experience with /tell.

In fact, Star Wars Galxies will be using a system like #2. In contrast, I\'ve been on multiple MUDs with the /newbie command. So both systems have actually been implemented in other games, demonstrating their plausablity and appeal.

Notice how Number 2 seems vaguly familiar to this new \"adviser\" system in CB?
