i no longer have lagg
« on: February 16, 2004, 09:44:10 am »
i know alot of people are having prob\'s with lag so i would just like to add that recently i had computer trouble\'s and put in a new motherboard proccessor vid card and 512 of ram and since then i have had hardly any lagg prob\'s only at certain time\'s (raining or changing from night to day vicaversa) do i lag and it is only for a couple of second\'s i freeze up so i am thinking the lagg depend\'s greatly on how good your computer is and that\'s my two cent\'s  :D

join the club....
Everyone knows that with a tonne of ram the game runs smooth... it\'s just that people havn\'t got a tonne of ram.... which is why they lagg...

I recently upgraded from 256 -> 512 MG of RAM, and it\'s got worse :( I\'ve seen an improvement in other games, faster loading times, etc, but sadly not in PS. I hit my all time low of 0.02 frame per second. *sigh*

I think FPS (frame per second) is really a bad unit for PS. Speaking in SPF (seconds per frame) is better.. :P

512 is definetely not enough for me. I run only at 2 SPF... :(

well i just figured with all the people complaining about lagg in ps i would put in my 2 cent\'s on how i got rid of the problem for me. now that i have minimal lagg ps is much more enjoyable (now i just have to figure out how to get rid of the foul mouthed flamer\'s lol)

512 what though?  SDram?  DDram? Rimm?

It also depends on what kind of ram you have.  Personally, I have a very cheap (price-wise) motherboard/processor, and 512 megabytes of DDram.  And the game works like a charm most of the time.

I would think that graphics card, OS, and drivers also factor in heavily performance wise.  A single poorly implemented OpenGL call on the Mac was enough to brutalize the performance of anything CrystalSpace-related until CS engine sidestepped the problem.

Proud owner of 768 RAMBUS memory. Just 1,6 GHz (No, not 64bit like Xordan) :P

The dev team needs to do some serious revamping on the performance. I\'m basically not able to play because it lags that bad, I just stand there, and hold a key down, and I move about 5 seconds later when the frame twitches. I also don\'t have the worst computer either, and mine should definately get me at least mediocre performance. I do understand that this is a VERY early version, and there\'s plenty of room for improvement. Looking at the team\'s experiene, I know they can do better.

2.6 ghz with hyper threading
512 MB DDR SDRAM memory
GeForce 4 MX 440 graphics card
Cable internet

I might add I\'m not even able to run the client in that OpenGL mode, but I have to settle for that safe mode or whatever it\'s called.

Well, we are not writing the engine, that is the Crystal Space team.  We have a very good relationship with that team and we push them very hard.  We are fully aware that the performance is and will continue to be an issue.
This may mean for us to take a more active role in Crystal Space development but at the moment we feel it is more important to get the core aspects of the game in place first and then track down exactly why performance is bad in places.  Jorrit ( the leader of the Crystal Space ) team is a brillant programmer and he is constantly making improvements.  One of these days he will hit the jackpot for performance gains :)

Planeshift devs are working closely with the Crystal Space team to ensure that performance is always being improved and stable on all systems. Crystal Blue (the next version of the game) will use a whole new version of the CS engine and I\'m sure everyone will experience much smoother play.

Bare in mind that Molecular Blue has not been officially worked on for many, many months. The only modifications to this version have come from fan-submitted code such as the /buddy give command and some bug fixes. Thus it is not an accurate representation of the achievements of the team to date.

i dont have any lag as well... only when night/day changes or rain/dry. I only have a 1.9G athlon and a 256 ram and GeF 4 mx440.  Cable.

If you people with a better computer cannot manage it, then i think it might not be the hardware, but the software (not the newest version) is the problem, or maybe that you do not have enough virtual memory of that your hard drive has too much data.

A couple of days ago i played PS i was lagging like hell, then PS shot hisself down, i had the message WINDOWS DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH VIRTUAL MEMORY. PLZ STAND BY WHILE MORE IS CREATED. and after a while i could play again and had no more lag.
