Information for Newcomers Please?
« on: February 18, 2004, 04:24:45 pm »
Greetings,

I just recently found this new amazing looking free MMORPG and I have a few questions before I decide to devote myself to this awesome looking game :D! I have been searching for new free MMORPGS for some while I started on Graalonline in 1998 moved in 2001 to Runescape because Graalonline went P2P and my member account expired, after experiencing the horrible graphics of Runescape (Aka, Poor mans Everquest) Even there members was crappy :D, then I moved on to Ragnarokonline and from there moved back to Runescape where I currently dwell....sad :D Now the question is all these games in there beggining stages have claimed free status forever and then all moved to P2P within no time at all and the only of which still ruling under free status/members is Runescape...once again...sad (but addicting) :D Now my question is will this game be any different or are you planning on staying free because I don\'t want to get addicted then find out months later that BAM administrations have decided they want cash? I can pay but I would rather not because I am only 17 and I got rent and car payments/ monthly license payments? So if anyone could answer this question it would be most appreciated :D

PlaneShift is planned to stay free forever, and if it doesn\'t you can always download the full source and go on by yourself :D

(in other words, the devs made this game opensource, everyone can contribute to it, and it\'ll never be p2p)

:( Always the same answer...but...heck I already started downloading 40 mins ago so ill stick with it and see what happens because I can\'t turn down even a temporarily free MMORPG specially this good looking! Can I be a Thief/Merchant/Rebel? Can I start a Guild called Tantalus and have my own Cave with a spar arena/bar/barracks/library/ meeting hall and weapon shop???

The Devs have promised time and again that the game will never go p2p...I believe them and I truly think they are doing this not for money, but because they wanted to, and they care about us, the gaming community. I sincerely doubt this game will go p2p, should it, although I think it is one of the few games that would be worth paying for, I would leave, but only with great disappointment. I don\'t think it will ever come down to that, and for this I am grateful...

Ambushing... Well, actually I think you\'ll have to see which part of PS will have PvP included, however don\'t expect much else than arenas, duels and guild wars to be PvP events. Don\'t get your hopes too high, or you\'ll be disappointed if it doesn\'t work out the way you want. :) But as for trading, you\'ll have plenty of opportunities, that\'s for sure.

Umm...
I don\'t think you\'ll be able to do that unless someone\'s willing to rp it with you.  :P
Read every thread you can, you\'ll see what planeshift is more clearly.  I\'d recommed reading Moogie\'s top 45(?) newbie questions thread.

I read it already and I am only recalling old events :D I could care less if it happened really but it would be nice to have players really Role Play and not just hack at each other while cursing and making fun of each others momma :D

Hm... not directly, @Ax. We had already the thread about the limit rights on any Planeshift art... and if i got it, any server running Planeshift has to be accepted by the dev team. That makes it difficult to run a \"similar\" game (not mentioned the discussion about the point, _when_ any written game based on Planeshifts Code Base is \"other\" than Planeshift).

Was no criticism, only some thoughts...

br, Winterheaven.
Max and Logan, that is the plan. (joshua)

eh, that was three days ago, and I don\'t feel like discussion the ps licenses again.. anyways, if they would made the game p2p they could only let you charge for the art, you\'re right about that. however, everything else could be used to make a free version of this game.

and this is all talking about when the devs would become so greedy that they will charge people to use their art and not let anyone else use it.. I honestly don\'y think this won\'t happen very soon.

One of the great characteristics of Planeshift is that it is free, and always will be. This is a non-profit organization, and it won\'t change. So no worrys, join the PS community :D
