Thief??
« on: February 19, 2004, 04:35:31 pm »
Hey, do any of you know the Thief games?? They were great!!! I can\'t wait for thief 3 to come out. For those of you who don\'t know of THief heres a brief look at the game. As the name suggests you play as a thief, Garrett, and at the time this was a breakthrough in FPS\'s introducing stealth. The graphics aren\'t to bad considering the first one was made in 1998.

Yeah, I remember when I played Thief for the first time and how incredibly scared I was while I was sneaking around in the shadows trying to avoid the whistling and burping guards that was patrolling the area.
The thief-series really has athmosphere and it\'s a nice alternative to the shoot em\' up genre. Sometimes you have to relax that trigger-finger of yours, hehe 8)

I loved thief, up untill it had me fighting against a host of undead monsters, and silly spiders... Yes, I might very well intend to play a wizard of the dark way, but still, those things kinda ruined my experience of being \"a thief\"...

I know exactly what you mean Xalthar. I had one of those re-release versions of Thief: Gold and absolutely loved sneaking around in the shadows, taking out guards with my bow, and dragging them off to a dark grave somewhere. Untill, that is, I got to some mines and there were the spiders and other things that go bump in the night. That spoilt it for me, although I\'m not sure why.  I think it was just too sudden. Started off doing thieving, fine - as was to be expected. Then all of a sudden I was supposed to kill ghosts and what not with holy water.. ?? eh? Oh well. Although now I really wish I would have stuck with it and completed it, I\'m sure it wasn\'t all bad after that point.

Thief 3 looks awsome though, thanks for the link Elegrand! I\'ve been slow with the news in games of late, after the dissapointment for HL2 and all... This one will probably be on my list though :)

I love Thief too and no zombies scare me more! :)
But Thief3 is looking so-so; I hope they don\'t screw it up like they did Deus Ex 2!

Thief 2 was far superior to the original, simply for the fact that you didn\'t have to deal with all those nasty creatures and the undead anymore. :)

I started playing it awhile ago again, actually. There\'s some nice mods out there which increase the difficulty of the game and add new objectives and goals. You can even do this yourselves, and I\'m sure these some tutorials floating around which explain how.

Thief has the scariest, most tense atmosphere of any game I\'ve played. Your heart skips a beat when you make a loud noise and see the guards coming towards you, shouting \"I know you\'re in here somewhere, taffer!\". Especially if you\'re trapped, and looking around desperately for a way to escape before they come close enough to spot you. My god... 8o It\'s awesome! *goes to play*
