New ranged weapon
« on: February 20, 2004, 04:44:58 pm »
Here\'s not a stupid post, thank you very much :)

So you have longbows, crossbows, throwing axes, throwing knives, and light bows. Would it be bad to include boomerangs? I mean it is an ancient weapon just like the others. A Boomerang is fair as any other weapon and it gives more variety for ranged weapons. Boomerangs don\'t just have to come in the shape of the \"V,\" so there can be more variety.

If you can\'t reply without flaming please don\'t. Don\'t wanna start another post like the \"War of the guilds\" thing.

Hehe...I was thinking the same thing actually...I wasn\'t gonna post anything about it....but since it\'s already here, why not? I think they\'d be an excellent weapon...you could also include chakras...that would be sweet...no more having to worry about ammo...

boomerangs = good.. they would be considered better than, say, throwing knives as u wouldnt have to wander over + pick em up

also if there is a throwing skill this could affect the likelihood of it returning to your hand

That would be cool...I\'m not sure if they\'ll do it, but they seem to already have a bunch of exotic weapons that you don\'t usually see in games, such as whips and nets, so what do a few more matter? ;)

This is only true if you miss. If you hit the boomerang lies next to or sticks in the target.

Good idea-yet impractical. It has already been said if you hit, your boomerang is gone. The boomering would have to be made of metal as well, as you would not accomplish much by throwing curved wood at an enemy. This would make the boomerang expensive as metal should not be as cheap as wood, therefore boomerang would be unpractical, just like in RL :P

or a big heavy boomerang made out of the bones of some big strong monsters.

It simply slices weak enemies and return to you :)

ok, ok I admit it. I watched too much InuYasha :D

I hate to tell you but if you have a good boomerang and are skilled with it, not only will it cause considerable damage, but will return to you...It is used for slashing, not piercing...It won\'t stick in them, it slashes them and keeps flying, then returns to you...

I want to see people throwing rocks and whatever they can lift...
Boomerangs sound fine, although you all exaggerated a bit. ;)

As well, there are multi-limbed boomerangs - they dont need the clasical \"V\" shape. They are X shapes and Y shapes as well; as long as the entire thing acts like a series of rotating wings, it\'ll work just fine because those rotating wings work well enough to generate lift.
Precious and beutiful, it is happy. The only time when it is not is when it is in a shape of a tear.

have you ever been hit by a boomerang? I got one of those crappy half inch thick ones that you get at museums and stuff and it still broke my wrist trying to catch it. There are stories all around australia of kids playing with real ones they get at flea markets and them breaking their own necks. You can take down a kangaroo at 40 yards away. I mean TAKE it down. Its neck will be shatered. Boomerangs should be pretty powerfull, at least as much as a good quarter staff. But it would be nice if you made some more ideas, making a post just for a boomerang is kinda sparse... :P

I tried looking online, the only thing I found other than boomerangs and the ones in the game was a throwing brick.

worried about ammo? cant you just shoot someone with arrows, and then when he is dead you loot his corpse, and that way get back all the arrows that you hit?
It will save some ammo, and people will sooner start shooting without being worried if they still have enough money later on to buy new ammo

Whemy: Lol no I suppose I never have been hit by a boomerang. What you said about kids breaking their necks gave me an idea. If there was a boomerang, if your skill was low, you could take dmg on return based on how well you caught it (By chance). That could be cool, an expert boomerang user could possibly hit multiple targets with one shot, and almost never take damage on return.
