Freeware AND shareware?  that freeware version is pretty limited then I guess..

If you really want a good, free image editing program, Use The Gimp -  http://www.gimp.org/ :)

EDIT: bah, acraig beat me :P

Bah!  That\'s my line!

I have tried ultimate paint in the past.
It isn\'t  that bad if all you have is mspaint, but, obviously, teh GIMP is better.

Mmmm, I\'m partial to Paintshop Pro... of course I\'ve been using it for somethin\' like 5 years now.  It ain\'t free, but it\'s got like 90% of the functionality of Photoshop and costs 90% less.  It\'s a $100 or so retail, but not that hard to find on sale for more like $30.  Great tool for working with game graphics... an you can pry do sigs with it too.

ok, since all the gimp fanatics seem to be here.. I just downloaded it, how do I make basic shapes like straight lines/circles/ovals/rectangles etc. ?(

I\'ve always used photoshop before, it had a tool for those.. hell, even mspaint has it :P I can\'t find it in the gimp though  ;(

EDIT: ok, found it :)

to make an oval/circle/rectangle make a selection of that shape and then stroke it(right click - edit - stroke).

and to make a straight line, use the pencil tool, click once inside the screen where you want the line to start, press shift and click somewhere else to make to line end. (thanks to lynx for this :) )

*nods*  All hail the GIMP!
It\'s a little confusing at first, but you get the hang of it.
If ya have any other Q\'s, us gimp fanatics would be happy to help. :)

Right it is a little confusing, and I get really mad at it sometimes, but eh...its free. PaintShop Pro 8 is so much better though...

I\'m starting to like the gimp now :)

one thing that bothers me though, it uses 5 seperate windows, isn\'t there a way to dock all of these to the main one and just get a normal layout like in photoshop or paint shop pro? it wouldn\'t be such a problem in linux, but it is pretty annoying having to maximize 5 seperate windows everytime I want to do something else.
