Experience
« on: February 29, 2004, 10:25:22 am »
I have heard that everytime there is a big update, you can select that you want to reserve your name. Then when you make a character again, you can use your old name (in my case Xanaroth). Then when you log back in you will get back the money or crystals you managed to pick up before.

I was wondering if the same would be with experience when the monsters join the game. That when there is a update and you select to keep your name, you would also keep your experience, and then when you are creating a character you would have a lot more skill points etc. Or that when you log in, you would get all the experience then making you jump lvl up right away.

I dont think it would be good to let a person keep skills, since you might get a magic to lvl 9, and then select Kran as a new race. That way people could cheat on the game\'s race limitations.

You know that CB wan\'t released yet? And that you are probably speaking of something which may happen in 1~2 years? I hope the MB-CB will be the last db wipe so there\'ll be no need to translate exps. Of course this will force devs to implement all the races in the CB but who knows... If some races are not implemented, this means another db wipe will be done to allow people to change race. In that case i think it\'s fair that exps are keeped.

In the PS roadmap, CB will be used to test if things (skills, stats...) are balanced. If they are not, devs will be forced to adapt exps between the next two versions. Indeed, if there was a way to gain easily 100 level in one skill, you can\'t translate these exps in the new version.

Future will tell us...

I vote for a big wipe to allow everyone to start fresh, since it is hardly fair for those that just came to play with those that have everything only because they have been around BEFORE the beta is even out. confusing...maybe

There will always be people who have the advantage. There will always be players who play before some, and those who play after. You can\'t change that. Should we wipe everything all the time to keep things \"fair\"?

Yea, I agree with Karyuu here. I think DB wipes should only occur when it is necessary due to things be added/changed, etc. but not due to being fair.

For ex, CB is released sometime in March; all of us here will be able to start and play. Then, there will be people that start in May or June. They would have a disadvantage cuz they started later. Does that mean wipe the DB every two or three months to keep the game fair? I wouldn\'t think so because that would be unfair to the players that were here in March. See? The Devs shouldn\'t worry about being fair.(I\'m not saying they are worrying) In a MMORPG, there will always be people that have played longer than someone else. The only way to make it fair is to wipe out the DB, then don\'t let anyone else not playing the game join later. So, everyone will start with a fresh slate and nobody else will join to make it unfair. That is the only way to make the game fair, but it is stupid!!! Fairness should never be a concern when dealing with a MMORPG unless it has to do with someone cheating, hacking, etc.

I also think that the experience should be saved with the name along with the items, money, etc. Everytime a new release comes out, players can keep their names, skill lvls, items, and money. The only exception imo would be if a certain item will not exist in the next release or if the currency changes.

Well then according to you there should be a wipe since something new is being added, like, attacking, monsters, new money, etc... and a lot of it is changing...

Swiping is good once the testing is over :) You should be able to rightclick on a character and have a menu pop up showing there name/guild/hours playing/ little description/level etc,, that way even if you swipe the accounts you would be able to regain the time you have played proving how much experience you have in this game!

No, I think someone misunderstood me, or him, no matter.
I am saying, there should be a wipe before public beta, if it ever makes it that far. Wipes due to \"fairness\" would be foolish.
As for name reservings, I did not know that was possible, I had to fight wish another dude for my name, he was the \"false\" Alucard, I am the real one. :D

Alucard sez:
he was the \"false\" Alucard, I am the real one.

:D Sorry, could not help myself, but I do think name reservations should definitely be implemented (which I think it will be). I don\'t want to see 40 Ghostwolfs or 20 Soup-a-Stars, and especially 2 Oligs. O.o
Beware that I am distorted in my wording if you do not understand me at all.

I do agree on the name dealy. Having your name taken is like loosing your identity, Noname2343343, who are you? oh, you are *insert a lovable and well known name here*, I remember you, what hapened to your name? Oh, some one took it, oh, well, I dun know you anyone Noname23423324.
On a side note, I do look mighty sexy with the sword and the cape. Hope PS allows me to recreate the look. :D

I like the idea of name reservations, or not so much that, but storage. I do not like the idea of playing as Adeli for months on MB to have some juvenile delinquent steal my name for CB because they liked it more than
eg. Goku209372093. Adeli is a name I created a long time ago to use in Baldur\'s Gate.

Weapons and skills should also be stored, it would be unfair on vet. gamers to have their progress wiped to even it up for the rookies. Same goes for money.

Think of this in RP aspects. This character is \'you\'. It is an alternate personality, an extension of yourself. I do not agree with people having multiple accounts at the same time, in RPing, you become your character, you can\'t do that if you have 850+ simultaneous accounts to test each character pathway and race.

As the character you play is essentially \'you\', it makes sense to be able to continue in the persona you created, and to hold the benefits gained by your progress. I\'m sure most people would agree.

I like Red Jelly Beans!

It is indeed very frustrating when you have to choose another name, because your favorite name is already taken. Luckily I have never had that problem, but I have played some games recently I played one or two years ago and in the meantime I changed my password and email address. I had to choose another name grrrrr
And because you can\'t have numbers (I like that) in your planeshift name, there is more risk of your name being taken.

but if they decide to keep exp. when they swipe they could make it so that lets say you have level 9 magic with your character, then they swipe and you get to choose a new one, i think that if you choose a Kran it should be made so that they reduce the magic skill to 8 (or whatever the top magic skill is for a Kran) or maybe they will have a different exp. system for each race so that there will be more exp. to cover for a Kran to get to the next level then lets say a Klyros, then they should take the exp. and convert it into the appropriate level. :)
