Music Cut
« on: March 01, 2004, 10:24:23 pm »
I make music and submit it to the LWW often, but I still have the problem of the songs making a disturbing \"cut\" as the song starts over. Any tips on how get rid of that? I would like a smooth transition. (I use FruityLoops3 for songs btw)

It\'s always going to export like that, you need to open the exported file in some kind of wave editor program and delete that last portion of the track.  Maybe other people know better the software you can use to do this properly, but in theory it\'s possible to do in the \"Sound Recorder\" app in Windows.

What software do you use?? Some allow for looping which makes the song repeat endlessly.

It IS possible to make the perfect loop, but you will solve one problem and get a few new. :)
1. the very start of the song will become unnatural (because you will have the tail - reverb, echos - from the end of the song there)
2. not every player/software will playback a loop smoothly anyway

So, just make a good endings for your songs ;)

Hmm, I guess I can use sound recorder, I just need a mp3<->wave program. And Xordan, I use FruityLoops3

Why make problems with echoes and reverb? Put some silence at the end and at the front of the song and the transition should be perfect. ;)

use cdex or some other cd ripping app for the conversion + there surely are some specific tools, just search.

If your song is looping fine in FL, but then has the pause after you\'ve exported it, then I\'d recommend exporting to a format other than mp3. Mp3s are known for having that exact problem. You\'ll have better luck with .wav or .ogg.

I\'m sure you can find an ok audio editor that you can download for free if you do need to edit the length of your file. Maybe look around at hitsquad.com.
But, if you have a good loop in FL, then there really should not be any reason that FL can\'t export good looping .wav file.

There is a reason. Again, FL don\'t cut \"tail\" from the very last sounds in the end of the song when sequence of patterns starts over, and in AUDIO loop you will allways have a clearly discernible point of loop\'s beggining. To avoid this he would need to make his tracks completely dry (without delay-based effects).

Actually, it\'s not very clear what exactly you want to achieve, Olig. Why do you want non-stop loop, where do you want it to playback...

Why? I dont like my songs to pause. When? At the end of the song. :P

That\'s usually how FL is used - for a non-stop loop. And the loop is made to work without reverb trailing off at the end. So, the tail should be cut off. And, I still say that if Olig has a 32 bar loop that sounds clean in FL, then he should be able to export a smoothly looping wav.

Ogg is cool format, with higher quality and smaller size of file at the same bitrate (comparing to mp3). Very rare software called Winamp can playback those files. :]

:) It\'s impossible to make a \"bad\" loop in FL. Absolutely any song made of patterns in FruityLoops and played back there will be ok, no matter what effects or what samples where used.
