New to the game.
« on: March 03, 2004, 12:55:15 pm »
Me and my friend are currently playing The Myth Of Soma RPG, an online game that has kinda passed it\'s best before date :P!

So we wanted to play a newish game beta which is relativiely good, and like this free :). Can you please tell us a little information about the game and what\'s currently happening...

We wanted a game where we could start playing at the same time with all the other people, and try to become a high level fast, instead of a newbie in a game filled with lvl 7000\'s :D hehe.

Please help with some replies,

Regards,
Skill Jim and Cosmo

My advice to you is read the newbie guides which you can find in the Newbie Section.

Okay thanks, one question... does that mean that everyone is lvl 1 at the moment right, with there being no battle features yet :P?

Yes and no.  Yes we are all going to be starting out the same when CB comes out.  No because PS isn\'t level based.

Planeshift is skill based instead of level based. so your character doesn\'t have an overall level that doesn\'t make sense(at least that\'s what I think of it :P), but different skills where he can get better in.

For example, your character might have skill level 10 in cooking and skill level 20 in knife usage or something like that. You level up by using a skill(actually sounds pretty logical, right :P), so when you cook a lot, your cooking level rises. When you use twohanded weapons a lot, your twohanded weapon usage skill rises. There\'s no such thing as just bashing monsters with a stick and then when you level up give all your points to raise your magic stats.

ok sounds good guys thnx, but ....

On Soma you would gain experiance for every monster kill ( a % for every No off mobs killed) do you gain anything like that? and also are you a certain class? such as on Soma you would become an archer Etc ... and that would mean you can only use bow. Thus giving only bow skill.?

Can all races use all weaps, like an Archer uses a sword (sounds silly i no but it ahppens :p)

If you use a bow to kill a monster, your bow skill will increase. If you use a stick to do it, your stick skill will increase, etc.

There are also no classes in PlaneShift, so you can be whatever you like, if you use the bow a lot you could call yourself an archer but you aren\'t bound by this. you can always switch to using a dagger instead(would be a waste of skill points though).

Alright, thanks for the help mate :P!

Do the weapons have skill requests, or can you just use anything at the start? Also do you gain strenght/dexterity/intelligence etc.

Thanks again ;)!

I guess I could answer that very easily.

Now... If you fight, you get stronger. If you cast spells, you get more clever. If you use two swords, you get more dexterious, and the same with using a bow. Etc. etc.

You gain stats from what you do, not by killing monsters and leveling up. Ever seen a guy who got smarter by punching someone in the face? :) He might have become smarter afterwards, but he definitely wouldn\'t get smart from fighting.

Cosmo - No answer for that question, no matter how many times you ask, and when you ask. :)

Q: How many Planeshifters does it take to expalin a simple concept to a newb?
A: Six. Five to argue on who\'s explanation is right, and Moogie to lock the thread.

Welcome to the PS community, I hope you will stay. Planeshift is a little different than other MMORPGs as you have already seen, but much more realistic 8)
