Problem...

I\'m not sure about this.  Won\'t those water-dwelling elves be a bit pissed having ships roaring over their head.  Or having sharp fishing hooks or fishing net in their habitat.

That and the pollution-punishable-by-death law according to the story line.

Unless, according to the map drawn, the ship will be in the body of water where the elves don\'t live.

Another good idea is to have skyships.  Designed on pricniple similar to blimps or science fiction hovership (they have magic, why not magical hover ships?).

My assumption for the need of this is that the flying animals PS have would not be able to carry large amount of cargo or passenger.  Skyships would be able to carry heavy cargos and passengers.  However they would be more costly to maintain (fuel, repair, and stuff) and slow.

Since Dwarves are master engineers, they could manufacture these vessels.  And flying animals could be reserverd for those who wants to have a fast and personal transport.

Here\'s the basic summary

Pterosaurs:  Expensive to buy.  Moderate cost to mainain.  Can be summoned and dismissed anywhere.  Low carrying capacity.

Skyships:  Cheap to buy.  Slightly more expensive to maintain.  Moderate to High carrying capacity.  Can only park in specified areas.

You mean like in Treasure Planet? I thought the movie was great, and SkyShips are an excellent idea. I\'m thinking maybe the Seventh layer could be for ships and 8th for elves/klyros/kran? Just a thought.
After a 14+ hour download at about 4 kbps, I finally downloaded and installed CB. Now if I could only figure out how to work the darn setup and character creation!

I wasn\'t thinking about Treasure Planet, but I think that might be a goodd model.  Minus the sails and rocket engine.

My reasoning is that since the whole city is underground, there couldn\'t be much of a wind, or not strong enough to power a ship.  And rocket engine is a bit unrealistic since the settings are suppose to be medieval.

A propeller might work, like a blimp.  The design could mimic a ship with a propeller.  This makes for a slow ship with massive cargo hold, bascially makes the ship good for cargo and passenger transport (more than the giant bat).

I\'m still for the ships (of some kind or another). The argument with the Nolthrir doesn\'t convience me much. The Nolthrir have to have some sort of transport too, don\'t they? Or are they supposed to swim through all the layers by themselves. Surely they\'ve invented at least one way of faster transportation - be that riding water animals, riding huge leaves that are moving because of the current or even making floating devices of some sort or another - be it propelled by wind, magic, (\"human\" or animal) labour or whatever.

Ship with propeller.  Can sail in water, but can also fly.

Multipurpose.... sweet...

So you all talk about vehicles, but ships is all that come to mind, lets see, wheelbarrows, some kind of wooden/iron type of bicycle used in towns, steam engines/industry drilling machines, communitive transportaion e.g. trains/ships :), mechanic wall crawlers between the shifts works as elevators...

OOT: slightly, how does the military work and how do they transport armies fast? every soldier has a pterasaurous or whats it called?

I really like this game i gladly offer many ideas that could enchant or highten the different things they told are about to implent even better.(dont ask what they are about to implent, You should know this yourself)

Ohh well, what else kinds of vehivles that could fit in planeshift?  cave planes?  air vehicles?  i bet air ballons!
and btw, what kind of energy do they intend the crystals could mass?  crystal belt(antigravity for mages) =P    *now im just getting silly, i know*

let me know what you all other thinks about these wishthinking?
-What if I press this then?
*Are you mad?!?
-No.
*Good, now you can press it.
-I dont want to anymore.
*Who are you again?
-Bye, gotta go now!
*But who will press the button?!
-Why dont you do it yourself?
*I cant.
-Are you mad?
*Yes, how come?

There could be both flying and sea monster, but flying would be more expensive than sea since it can fly over the sea. OMG I want a monster to ride on.... *sees himself on dragon casting monster summons near citys below him :)*

I like the idea more than those thing. But ships would be fine I guess.

I think boats would be cool idea, but they might be hard to implement, and if they wre the lame morrowind type, that would be useless, where you see a boat, talk to a sailor, and tada, instantly at another dock. so if you sail them yourself, or someone else sails it for you ( read: ferry), it should be \"real\" game time.

Edit: I think that monsters are cool to, maybe have the ancient sea worms seen in old maps, to ride, that would be sweet.

Boats are an ok idea...

having ships would be cool, but too many people would want them...then no1 could sail because the whole ocean is taken up with boats. and dont they have to build the ocean first?

portals are a great idea in my mind....though...you cant fish off them or sleep on them

But if you did have boats...through in a couple serpents to sink them :)

It is true that the current scene for PS includes lakes only. However I do not remember seeing where it said that the current world is the ONLY world. A complete new water based world could be assembled in another stalagtite and reached via passage or portal by those with a seafaring nature...

Land and/or air transport by nature is very limited in the amount of cargo and the size of items they can transport. Sea transport on the other hand is limited only by the size of the ship, the docking facilities and the characteristics of the port.  Also other means of transport are relatively expensive when compared to bulk transport of goods by ship. Thus the only realistic way to trade in bulk goods (especially those coming from other civilizations (a possibility mentioned in the scene discription) is by ship...

Ships (Gallions, Corsairs, scooners and the like) would have to be built and fitted (new jobs) and naval warfare is bound to occur (along with piracy etc)...

There are difficulties to this scheme, but they are not insurmountable and in the end would add greatly to the PS experience. Besides, as previously mentioned, ships would be cool....:)

And yes, we are going to need horses, oxen, cattle etc. How else would we be able to pull those carts (they call them ox-carts for a reason) and jousts would be a cool thing as a participant and a spectator....as for cattle, you gotta have them for beef and milk...:)

(shutting up now so others can have their say)
