Side Skill/Trade Skill
« on: March 17, 2004, 11:23:26 pm »
I think trade skills such as harvesting and such make games a lot more interesting, Some players (Such as myself) Get bored easily with games with just combat and quests, I think it would be awesome if there were..

-Fishing- able to fish and catch them to sell/cook.

-Cooking- able to make fish and other food worth more/recover my hp/stam.

-Harvesting- able to harvest herbs/flowers/plants and food.

-Lumberjacking- able to chop trees to build fires/torches/camp fires to cook.

-Carpenty- able to carve furniture, etc for your house

-Music playing- Able to buy guitar/drum/flute/etc and play music which can be heard by other players within a certain radius.

And thats all I can think of right now. I\'m sorry If i have listed a skill that is already in the game. I\'m not demanding these be implemented or I\'m not going to play/stop playing, Just a few suggestions that I thought would add some more entertainment into PS.

well i kind of like music playing. i play guitar very well and i would rather play my accoustic and have a live audio feed than just type keys on the keyboard. that would get repedetive and im much more fluent on guitar than typing keys. please devs... im pleading....

Well, fishing can be done with the brooks and streams found in the Setting. And other types of fishing can be catching fish in the flooded levels, if there are fish in there. I have this idea of a herd of fish, herded by the waterdwelling Elves (can\'t remember what they\'re called), and those cattle-fish can be slaughtered for meat or disgusting entertainment of a sort.

Also, perhaps an idea as to how to make those jobs interesting would be nice. In the Unnameable Game, it had all those skills and crafts... And it was as boring as writing the same word over and over and over again. It was doing that, except you doing the same action over and over again. Clicking. And most PSers will leave PS if that happens. Or I will, at least, but seeing the status of That Game in these forums...
You pay the same price for doing something halfway as for doing it completely. So you might as well do it completely.

Wow, I can\'t believe you guys didn\'t flame him! Well, guess I\'ll follow your example. I am looking forward to the cooking part though.

Whemy I think it might be a little unrealistic to have people playing music files across server. It would eat bandwith, and there would be no real value in it. Just post some songs up on kazaa or the web or something man, hows a drummer gonna play his drums? Haul them up to his computer? Not to mention I don\'t think guitars exactly should be in PS since it is a modern instrument.

I really dont know how music playing is gonna work, how would you benefit from playing music? And how would you raise skill in that?

Misunderstanding

Nono, there must have been a misunderstanding about the music thing.. I mean your character can play music, not you stream music. And you\'re right, there would be no actual point in it then to add fun and an enhancment to the game. And about raising the skill, how do you get better in real life? You practice playing right? That\'s how it would go up in the game. I think it would be fun, but as of the whole importing you\'re own music thing.. That doesn\'t sound too appealing to me.

And as far as playing the music, your character could choose one of several songs, and play. If you fail, the music stops and you have to start again. Something KINDA like the bards songs in Ragnarok Online.

i dont think your gonna have music being played when someone playes a song lol. It will prob just say person starts singing. The only music you will be able to make is with spells lol. Spell effects

Actually I\'ve seen it done before, If the devs wanted it in They can put it in. It has been done in Asherons Call 2, come to think of it. It actually wouldnt be that hard to do. Now that I think of it, It was in ragnarok too, but only bards, a music class could do it, and it was also they\'re way of attacking, In AC2 It was a skill.

There are many topics on characters selecting in game songs to play as bards or something. Just search for them - most are here in the wish list.

wait what was this about. I was just saying that ingame music would not be played for bards singing songs. Bards would just like sing a song and in the text bar it say \"bard_dude plays funky_song_3\"

Actually Dalec the guitar is not modern, acoustic that is.  A version of a stringed acoustically sounded box dates back to the beginning of recorded time.  The mayans, egytpians, ancient asian, Inuit, etc.  all had a stringed instrument stretched across a resonator of some sort.
Not flaming you, I\'m a guitarist and thought I\'d set the record straight.

How about if you could post your song list on the server at some sort of song web page.  As long as there was no copyright issues.

It would only take up more space on the server.  The processing time would not matter since the server and the client would have to play some song - it does not matter which song they end up playing.

You could then choose one of the songs from your list.  And everyone near you would hear your song.

Normally you would only play in pubs or music halls.
