Laser Magic
« on: March 21, 2004, 05:37:09 pm »
HYPOTHETICALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <------

If there was some sort of laser magic like a spell that shoots a laser beam, what type of magic would that go under? I remember in Chrono Trigger, Robo had a laser and the old dude in the time portal said that it Robo\'s laser is considered shadow magic or in this case dark magic.

Would a laser be considered dark magic? If you believe differently or if you have any opinions on what type of magic \"laser\" magic should be, please reply.

EDIT: sorry, I mean also the laser beam is pure light, with no elemental properties, just a very hot laser that burns.

Well, if you think about it... the consentrated light that you get when burning things with a magnifying glass is sorta like a weak laser... and considering that you are talking about a \"pure light\" beam, i guess it would fall under light magic...

I mean light and dark magic.

But if you really think abstract, it can be considered because a laser is artificial, it has no life, so in a very very abstract symbolic sort of way it can be almost considered dark magic.

Alright...

1) There is no such thing as a light way. You are probably referring to the crystal way, which deals in Life and Light.

2) The laser beam would be under two ways: Crystal and Red. Crystal because it is light, and Red because it is directly destructive using heat.

No I\'m not taking about a way, hence I used the word magic instead of way. I\'m referring to general magic not a specific way.

Yes it can be under light magic and fire magic.

I agree with you 100%. Though I really hope there won\'t be any laser beam spells in PS. They are more sci-fi, lightning bolts and fireballs are great.

simple beam of light would obviously go under Crystal Way. Now that considering laser is just powerful type of beam of light, it\'ll stay in that way. No, it shouldn\'t go under Red Way.
Kuiper7986: saying something is light/fire magic is same as saying specific Way... what\'s your point?

You\'d need a way to make the light hot enough to cause damage. That\'s where the Red way comes in. Followers of both the Red way and the Crystal way would be able to cast the spell, IMHO.

LASER      Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation

Whatever that means, I\'d say you\'d use crystal way ase the base light and then use red way, or perhaps even some others too, to \"amplificate it by stimulated emission of radiation\". To make it simple, it could just be crystal only.

BTW this discussion reminded me of Balefire in the Wheel of Time books, that would be a nice spell to have in PS.

and you could put that under the fact that Azure Sun is emiting radiation... and this would put it directly under Crystal Way
Also remember that it should be created by magic so it\'s just a beam of light.

I have no point Draklar, I\'m a pot-head crack addict.

We can infer that the crystal way usually deals with protective spells, holy spells, cure spells, etc... A laser isn\'t really considered holy, at least I\'ve never heard of it being holy.

laser is just a concentrated beam of light, so it should be considered crystal way, because crystal way is light. :)

Isn\'t the Azure sun the source of all magic in Yliakum? So it isn\'t just the Crystal way followers that use its power.
