planeshift on linux?
« on: March 26, 2004, 07:17:29 pm »
I have read forum and there is lots of questions and answers about how to run Planeshift on linux, and i have read lots of these threads.. but still i cant get PS to run..

My machine:

Time of test: 26.3.2004
OS: Linux, Fedora Core 2 test1/2
Processor: 1.3GHz Intel/Celeron2
RAM: 256
Video Card: Ati Radeon 7000
Video Card Memory: 32mb
PS Client Version: planeshift.tar.gz

I have these versions of cvs-cel and cvs-cs on my system:

cs-2004-03-24.093701
cel-2004-03-24.113701

my env is set to: eCRYSTAL=/usr/local/crystal

And these work with CS-tutorials as i can compile and run them.

But when i try to run pssetup/psclient/or psclientbin i get following errors:

./pssetup

Is your CRYSTAL environment var set?

I have managed once to get planeshift 2.008 to work, but it was slow and after that i have got new display adpater so i wanted to give planeshift another shot.

But between these two tests i updated cs and cel from cvs as tutorials wanted cssys, which wasnt installed back then for some reason.

If i try \"the official linux cvs build\"-howto i get this on planeshift stage:

***
*** be also sure that you\'ve either installed CS or set the CRYSTAL var right.

Btw, this address doesnt work http://crystal.linuxgames.com .

Sorry for long post.. but if someone has ideas, they are welcomed..

Your version of Crystal Space is too recent for Molecular Blue. Crystal Space is still in devellopement so sometimes compatibility between versions is broken. Your error is due to the merge of cssys into csutil.

Check the main Planeshift Site Download > Sources (http://www.planeshift.it/download_source.html) to get a valid CS source. Do the same for cel (Crystal Entity Layer) because it is also in devel.

The official Crystal Space site is http://crystal.sf.net

You are right, this is the wrong forum. But don\'t worry, an admin will probably move your thread and ban you only for one month (normal ban time is one year, but you posted your system spec, so we can reduce the ban time) :P.

Maybe you have a too recent version of Jam? Here, 2.5 is used all of the time. ;)

*sigh* Why don\'t you  just follow the instructions here: Building  from CVS in Linux. And change the -rMB010 tag in the \"Build Planeshift\" section to -rMB, otherwise /spawn won\'t work.
And  it really  seems  to be another version of  JAM, maybe even a different product? Just follow the instructions given by the link and  don\'t try to experiment with  other   things again :P

Back to Planeshift again \\o/

I had tried them before, as i said my message about \"official howto\", actually  i had followed it several times. And about jam, yes, Boost.jam is different, but based on preforces(?) jam, and yes, i had installed correct jam when i followed the instructions.

I had failed previously with this \"howto\" but, jsut to humor myself, i tried once more and this time it works. Now i just have to get past linkdead to see if game is faster with new graphics card.

Thanks for patience.
