Forgotten Realms Novels
« on: March 27, 2004, 05:15:35 am »
I am a Dragonlance novel fan... but recently I\'ve run out of books that I really find any interest in reading so I\'m thinking of moving over to another huge series of Fantasy novels... but the problem with Forgotten Realms is that I haven\'t a clue where to start. In Dragonlance there was were clearly marked out novels which were essentual to the reading and understanding of other novels and a clear chronology... I haven\'t found the same in FR yet... are there any FR fans here who know what order I should read these novels in?

I read some of the Dragonlance books and I didn\'t think they were very good in my opinion. Check out the other post about Fantasy books, there are a lot of opinions there. I would suggest the Shannara series, Magician series, and maybe the Belgariad and Mallorian series.

Wheel of Time all the way. But about Forgotten Realms, I think the best novel to start with would be the first of the Drow trilogy.

For forgotten realms books I\'d say go Salvatore. The Dark Elf books are my favorite, but the Cleric Quintet is also a good five novels.

Yes Wheel of Time is really good too, its just not the most exciting series, but the climax of the books are the best!

isn\'t there some sort of chronological sequence to those books? You\'d think the events of the first novel written would effect the next... and so on and so forth.

Actually forgotten realms is just a world where several diffrent stories take place. The diffrent books don\'t have much in common except that you may encounter characters or events from the other books. So just start reading them all. :)

I like the Elminster books though. They\'re great. :)

Edit: God bless my spelling... Sheesh.

Really... so nothing really exactly earth shattering... or world changing happens in the books? I guess any I\'ll go and pick up the cheapest series I find, if it\'s all the same lol
