PS for Mac OS X
« on: April 03, 2004, 07:43:05 pm »
I\'ve been really excited about Planeshift for months... but now I\'m starting to get a bit bored with it. I\'ve heard stuff is happening for a Mac OS X version, but just watching the forums and main news site I haven\'t seen any real progress. It\'s been months, and still nothing. Does anyone know how long it\'s projected to take for a good OS X version to be running? Does anyone know if there\'s a progress log around somewhere so I can keep up to date (and perhaps prevent my slide into total apathy...)?

From the sounds of things, a Mac release will happen probobly a bit after CB.  There are a few people using a Mac that have built the CVS version and apparantly it works fairly well.

If you want a more accurate answer, you could always go to the pub dev channel, and one of the people helping to work on the Mac release may be there.

If the Mac version is working fairly well why is projected to be released AFTER Crystal Blue?

EDIT: I want it now! Now, now, now! :P (jk... :) )

The reason for a slightly post-CB release date is that none of the people on the dev team have Macs, just a few of us people on the \"fringe\".  It seems that they\'d rather not distribute all the art etc. to J. Random Hacker who says he/she wants to make a mac build, to prevent nasty leaks from happening.  If they give one or two of the mac users a few weeks warning and the game data, it would be possible to test and do a simultaneous release.  Still, expect a whole new round of trouble - the community now has experience diagnosing problems arising from weird linux/windows configs, now we\'re going to have to adapt to weird mac configs.
