Good or Evil?
« on: April 07, 2004, 01:17:41 am »
i didnt see a post about this...but i just thought it would be cool to choose how or what deeds you do..... a player should be able to decide to be good or evil... the evill would recieve different quests or did them a certain way.... also should be able to kill destroy and steal... of course this is almost impossible to even out and i was just dreaming...

I don\'t see why everything has to be programmed...why can\'t people be evil by the way they act?

I agree with IceFalcon. If your idea was implemented, then someone who chose evil might want to be good. No, players should have the freedom to act how they are at the moment. There is a thing called development, and I don\'t see why the players/characters cannot change to the other moral side.
You pay the same price for doing something halfway as for doing it completely. So you might as well do it completely.

no they chooose the way the act during quests and when they can destroy everything i didnt mean actually programming it in.... i meant being able to choose to destroy a building or help it...or destroy towns but then i thought it is impossible to allow a player to be truly evil in a game because you know you cant have a player ledestroying ylikiam or anything and then just make it come back that would be to annoying...but stilll really fun....but it is impossible maybe just able to destroy player made buildings and towns...bombard them with ships and assassinate people...but you cant do that and you cant destroy the world so technically a person can not really be that evil just dark to saint no evil what also would be really interesting is if you could steal and break into almost anywhere in the entire game and kill all the guards and steal pretty much anything except for some of the nailed down and heavy stuff.... if there is anyone really important you dont want to die just make it invincable....the destroying towns, the world making all the people slaves and covering the cave with darkness is fun but cant be done because then the game would change.... cause then they have to rebuild and destroy the person who is evil etc. which is kind of dumb because you cant be completely evil and the game isnt as realistic... allowing people to be extremely evil would only be fun for the evil people unless they even out with good people but what if everyone wanted to be evil then they would constantly destroy everything and everyone

Hmm I don\'t really get what you are saying... you control your character, you can do whatever you want (what the game allows of course), and alot of the things you said we based on things that aren\'t even made yet...

yah i was thinking very far ahead.... but seriously you cant let people be completely evil in a game just completely good.... because things caused by evil are usually pretty permanent ie. death destruction etc or just very hard to repair.... some things should be allowed though... like reaking into every where in the cities and stealing everything.... or just killling all the guards in a building for kicks... but that just really irritates me....

we should try to figure out what should and should not be allowed...find a way for people to do what they want they should be able to do anything, but there are consequences but in a game those consequences wouldnt be cared for as much

Hm.. I didn\'t actually get what you\'re saying but..

Well, yes, if someone gives you a quest to go bring someone to safety and instead you kill her you become evil (and win nothing for making the quest :P) but that I think would require a \"alignment\" bar sometime like Arcanum\'s in which depending on what you do (doing good quest or evil quest, fulfilling them or not, or just simply killing people) would change your alignment..

what shadowfish is describing (if i\'m understanding it)  reminds me alot of what is being planned in Fable (which looks insanely sweet IMO) and the alignment system used in KOTOR.
However i believe that this would be very difficult to implement in a MMO instead of a traditional single player RPG.

Bah my guild allignment is good but we will associated with evil guilds and evil people on a regular basis especially if they are friends...Also I am sure many of my members will enjoy the evil side as well as the good, so they are free to do as they wish when the guild doesn\'t require them!

this can be brougth up later.

i think a system like that can be implemented since PS is in eternal development.

There won\'t be any alignments in Planeshift. If you want one, do as your char would do and that\'s all.
If there would be quests like
\"Please escort me to nearby village. I have powerful item and I\'m sure that someone will attack me on my way.\"
You could either help him or kill and take the item away.
But who knows how will quests look like...

I guess if you put it into that kind of situation, you would look to see if the item was worth tarnishing your chars way of life!

yah draklar has almost the right idea...do what an evil person would do...not measured by a bar or shown unless they get some sort of wanted list or something...but the basic freedom to attack and do what you please

yah you can control your character but you cant control it to kill something in a town or blow up a building just to see what happens
