Training skills
« on: April 08, 2004, 01:02:52 pm »
I dont know about the rest of the people here. But I am really tired of getting XP from Fighting, and fighting and fighting. Everytime I use a spell or pick-a-lock I dont getn anything.....

A friend of mine has made a (manual) RPG game.  There one can build things (small camps, traps.....) Also one gets a small  amount of XP for using a skill.

So lets say that I\'m a mage. I use a spell (e.g. Heal) a few times, then I should be better at that spell. So that that spell lvl\'s up while the other spells same.  Same goes for tracking and other skills.

Also one can conbine skills. So lets say I use the forage skill, I find some long pieces of wood I then sharpen the wood. Then I can put the wood in the ground and use it as a training dummy for my fighting skills. Also I could build a fire...

I guess the quiestion I have is: Will anything like this be in  the game?

I understand that there is a difference between RPG in ones mind, and a RPG on a computer (since everything has to be programed here) But sumat like the above would enhance the game. Aswell as creating a more RPG\'ish feel.

Just wondering.

What about Item creation?

how detailed will that be? Fixed items, getting a NPC to make/enchant the item. oneselv beeing able to do so with spells. Or going the full 9yrds and having to have a small workshop and gadgets.

There will be specific jobs for creating items and the player will have a lot of possibilities and freedom in creating stuff so you\'ll have to go all 9 yards yeah.  :]

and it wil take time to create some of the things?

E.g. Brewing a specific potion could take 10 min, because one must let it boil, then dry ...

The easier things, like time based potion making and the like, tend to just need programming while the more complex things (building a house, boat, sword?) tend to have a lot of animation effects that go into them. So while it should eventually be there I would not look for it in the next release. I assume that because of the Developers passion for PS and their willingness to meet players wishes ?which are usually their own as well- you can expect to see all kinds of stuff you can make and the time to make them being right. It has already been mentioned that skills will be independent so well just have to see what that comes out to.

i think that instead of gaining abilities the farther up you are.
you should have all abilities and they become better the more you work on them!
that is great!
great! whoopie!
