Plane Shift In Russian
« on: April 11, 2004, 02:09:02 am »
I dont think any of you remember, but a while back i wanted to make a translation for the PS client. But becuase it is still pre-alpha, i decided to wait till CB, or some other more stable version.

Well, this thought just hit me. Why not for starters make a translations for the website!?!?!

Well, first off, I wanted to ask the Devs if its ok if i use the exact format and \"skin\" (not sure what the whole layout of pictures and things is called for websites) as it is on the original site (http://www.planeshift.it). Just redo the whole thing in Russian.

Second of all, i dont know of any good website editors (for HTML use), so if anyone could point me in the right direction, i would greatly apreciate it.

And finaly if anyone could tell me of a good webspace host. I am curently useing \"freewebs\", but i know that when my guild tried using it, we didnt have enough space to add all the stuff that we needed.

That is all.
All opinions are apreciated.

P.S. my spelling is a lot better in Russian...

Q: How many Planeshifters does it take to expalin a simple concept to a newb?
A: Six. Five to argue on who\'s explanation is right, and Moogie to lock the thread.

My opinion is that you have to wait... guess for what!  :D  Yes, for CB release.

Why it is quite sensless to translate the official website now:
1. Its contents are old and a bit chaotic. After CB release info there will become even more useless.
2. Design of PS website leaves much to be desired. Again, after CB release current layout will spring a leak in functionality. Release will bring more or less sensible gameplay, and that means that a lot of guides/descriptions must be added; structure of the site can change.
3. Translation of the official website will require momentary response on any updates. It\'s hard to accomplish, even if you swear 365 days 24 hour a day duty. ;)

That\'s why I think you should
a) wait for CB
b) make a russian community/fan-site (with translation of docs and guides that are or will be on planeshift.it, but in more flexible form on the whole), instead of straight translated copy.

And you know what? I am russian, and I\'ll be glad to help. I\'ve got absolutely no time this months, but may/june might bring me some sort of spare time.

Uhm if I were you I\'d learn a thing or two about webdesign before you\'d get started. If you don\'t you might open up a file thinking that you can just translate some text but instead you\'ll be looking at a clutter of tags and other stuff.

Dont wory Skizzik, I have easily succeded with all computer related stuff that i have encountered... and i will figure this one out to...

And Ellarion, your right, i should wait till CB... I havent thought about this when i started this thread... but one of the things that annoys the hell out of me is what the battle system will be like... It would realy suck if i translated the whole thing. And a week or two later found out that the Devs changed every thing in CB...

Well... for the webspace host.  You could always use http://www.freepgs.com/.   For 3 dollars (one time payment) you get 50 megabytes of webspace, unlimited bandwidth, no file limitations, php coding, and mysql.  Pretty good deal for 3 dollars.

For the editor, there is the Netscape Composer.  It comes with the netscape 7.1 package that you can download here.   This is of course for a windows machine.  The composer is pretty good, you can put the html coding in one spot, click on a tab, and have it come out as a normal webpage and you can do the editing from there.

Just an idea or two.
