Commercial items in game
« on: April 12, 2004, 06:54:56 am »
I\'m not talking about having Coca Cola but rather highly original game specific commercial items, like maybe there would be a weapons smithing company in Yliakum named, \"Yliakum Weapons Inc.\" The company could sell its own brand of weapons which can\'t be smithed by a human player, like for example: Yliakum Weapons Inc. Battle Axe. Or Yliakum Weapons Inc. Gold Falchion or something. Also same with other items like maybe medicenese like Laanx Pharmeceuticals selling non-creatable only buyable medicines and potions like Laanx Pharmeceuticals Antidote. Or clothes, like Orthonos Store, then you could buy Orthonos line brand of clothing. Good idea or bad? I think its good, gives more variety and different companies would have their own brand of stuff, creating like competition.

i think that it is an ok idea,
but i also think that it would be a good idea if you could make everything in your class ie. blacksmith

yeah, it is a great idea. that way you dont need to go to an other player for everything you want, but you can go to a npc as well.

I\'d like it if there were only human crafters that would sell weapons and armor. They could have their own \'corporations\'. Maybe the items could have the name of the maker in them.

well that would depend on how many types of weapons are creatable. The way I would setting it up is like this.

Let say I wanted to start my own corporation. First off you have to be kinda rich because it costs a lot of money, anyways, first I\'d goto to the main Planeshift site and then there would be a section under economy and would goto to a new section called Corporations. Then under that section it would give you the option of setting up a corporation. To do this you have to specify what area(s) you are going to specialize in then you fill in the form they give you, it would be questions like: Why do you want to start a corporation? Is this corporation going to be guild oriented or are you going to be a single entrepeneur? Stuff like that. Then you choose if you want a building or not and they would give you a selection of areas, depending on what area the more expensive, for example inside a busy city would be quite expensive but more lucrative because more people go through there rather than setting up a shop in the middle of a ancient forest, and so on...
Not only that but you have to pay a down payment, which would ensure that you will recieve the property for that building. Down payment would be like 20% of the buildings full value. Then lastly the form would be submitted to a Dev(s) who then will review and would reject or accept your idea. Of course I\'m not saying you have to do this to sell things, you could sell whatever you want but this corporation thing would make it more official and maybe the Devs can help or something.

This is just all hypothetical so ya, that\'s how I see it, if it were player ran.

Well, this idea is realistic, after all. But you can\'t just start a corporation, create items, and sell it just by yourself. Would you not need to hire employees as well? And what do the employees need to do? How are they paid to do their work? Will you be required to treat them ethically?

Also, perhaps you might have to \"import\" raw materials, like iron, wood, gold, pigs, etc. Then you, in your factory, blacksmith, laboratory, etc, you have employees create your brand weapon, armor, shoes, and so on. Comments?

You pay the same price for doing something halfway as for doing it completely. So you might as well do it completely.

that\'s why there would be a form you have to submit to the Devs before they officially proclaim it. Unless your on your own acting as a non-affiliated third-party corporation, that would depend on the leader of the guild or company.

We are planning to let people \'mark\' items they create so you know where they come from.  So there will be a crafter/guild ID \'engraved\' into the item.  I like this idea because it allows people/guilds build a name for themselves and you can tell if an item is good or not depending on who made it.

would the item(s) made have to be officially checked by the Dev team? Then be given an okay or no to the guild or person who made the item?

No, you just put your mark on them when you craft the item.  If it is a crappy item then it is your name on it :)

so if you only make items that are almost useless or xtremely bad or unreliable and your name is on them, people will know that items with your name aren\'t good and will no longer be willing to buy your stuff.

That would be great, :) I already having ideas for what I could put on my armor! One problem I think and maybe I will relate this to Diablo you could mark your armor sign it when you do certain quests and then that armor will always have your name on it! Now is it just me or when you go to sell a peice of armor that has your name on it no matter how good it is, would you want to be wearing someone elses armor?

well.... if you dont have a high enough skill you wont have much choice since you cannot make it yourself.

but if there really is a chance of failure (dont know if that will be in the game) stronger armors would be even rarer since it is verry hard te create them.

Acraig saying that, could that statement probably a precursor to eventual free production of items meaning,

in time later on, we can maybe make our own custom items not being restricted to what can be made or not?

the marks are all going on the items, but what will judge the quality of the items? they would have to able to customize weapons
