I have an idea for a possible smithing system that could be used in planeshift.
First, instead of saying \"so-and-so needs to be at level 30 smithing to make an iron long sword,\" I believe that anybody should be able to make anything at any level, as long as they have the right supplies. The skill level of the person who made the armor would put a certain armor rating on the armor. For example, a really good smith could make a suit of steel armor, and lets say the armor rating would be 100. A less than average smith could make the same thing, and the armor rating would only be 40. Other fighting skills would also affect armor rating. The greater the armor rating, the less damage you would take. Of course, better metals that are used would have an effect of raising the armor rating.
I hope this makes sense. It might be too complicated to actually do, as this is just a vague idea. Please respond with any comments/suggestions related to this.
