History of PlaneShift?
« on: April 19, 2004, 08:00:55 pm »
Hello everyone! I was curious, could anyone possibly tell me the history of the game (not about the \"idea\" of the game, but how long it\'s been running)? Thank you very much!

I know a little bit...

The original 2D MUD version of the game started development back in \'94, and by 2001 they had started coding the 3D version. The first public alpha release of this was called Atomic Blue and allowed players the ability to explore, chat to others, and pick up randomly spawning items (including weapons, although they were unequippable I believe).

Then came Molecular Blue, which added the temple interior and the labyrinth beneath the city. It is the current version of the game and allows item giving/trading, equippable weapons and guild creation.

Talad was, and always has been, the founder of the project. Him and his best friend (under the alias of Laanx) were the project leaders untill Laanx had to leave due to his hectic schedule in RL.

That\'s about as far as my history knowledge goes. :P I\'m sure you\'ll glean more info from the uber-oldbies of the community, such as Gronomist or even the devs themselves.

as far as i know (could be wrong though) it was like this:
1) text (or even irc) MUD
2) 2D graphical MUD made from renders of the world we\'re in now (actually the AB version)
3) AB
4) MB
5) (future) CB

Someone requested the MuD code, I remember somebody saying Talad said that even he doesn\'t have the code anymore... I\'m sure you could get it somewhere, though. Just search a little.

Here is the REAL HISTORY:
First there was two, Talad and his friend, whom I\'ve met once, he was cool. Then Talad fired his friend, or something, but he stoped working, he was like a writer or something. Then, people came, and grabbed power by the hornes. Then I came, then there was mIRC. Then there was nothing for a while. THen the forums started to fill up with idiots, and then people began to get banned. And now everyone spams for fun.
This here is the real history of PS. You are a little to late for the fun, right now, we got stupidity, flaming, bannings, spam, and oh.....I better shut it, I would not want to express my opinions, they may take me away!

Oooo, no such glamour in AB ;)

We were lucky if we could make it walking from one side of the plaza to the other without falling through the floor ;) No items, no interiors, no Tavern, no Library and the longest world initialisation time you could ever imagine!
