What will PlaneShift become?
« on: April 19, 2004, 09:51:54 pm »
I don\'t know if anyone has seen the anime .hack//SIGN, (for those who haven\'t it\'s about a role play game), but is it possible that PlaneShift could become like that? I\'ve never seen a MMORPG idea this complex before. If the creators are actually going to create what they say the finished product of PlaneShift will be, the depth and ideas could be like that of .hack//SIGN.

What do you think?

It develops too slow for it to become anything like that. Though that amou nt of realism in a game would be awesome...

OT: I just found out I registered the same day as hook. Weird coincidence.

What I like so much about PlaneShift is that there aren\'t that many people who play it yet, so people here aren\'t as rude as they would perhaps in other games. I\'ve seen too many forums that have been ruined by too many people (http://www.go-gaia.com).

If PlaneShift can stay as kind as this, it will become a great game.

Trust me, the community will always stay nice due to two major facts (there are plenty more but this is the main thing):

1) Venge bans people he doesn\'t like (spammers and other people who can\'t behave nicely)
2) The game itself will be moderated by great GMs (the devs will make sure they are, and fix some better ones if they aren\'t) and all rude people will literally be chased out of the game.

So no need to worry. Besides, as long as people ignore those \"worthless cases\", it can\'t become too bad.

Happy?  You got in before me?
Anyway thought I\'d correct your post Grono. :)

Add to that:  Or if he simply does not like you, whether or not your posts are within forum rules.

2) The game itself will be moderated by great GMs

Add to that: Provided the GMs have the client downloaded and installed.

Add to that: Unless you you\'re name begins with an M.

Back on-topic:
I\'m not sure exactly how you want Planeshift to become like .hack//SIGN but if it\'s the roleplaying and community then PS will exceed it by leaps and bounds.  The majority of the players here are very big supporters of roleplaying and Planeshift will be heavy on it.  And if you\'ve hung around the forums long enough you will know that the community here is very friendly and inviting.  Except me.[/COLOR]

Look Aendar, I have no idea what you have against Mogura. Why don\'t you try picking on someone new for a change instead of rubbing around in the same old spinach like everyone else. That might bring up some interesting new discussions. It\'s the \"Oh look what that person did\" and \"Oh look what that person did again!\" things that make boards -boring-. Anyway, yes. Venge bans people because Venge is the rules, so he kinda decides what\'s right and what\'s not. You don\'t. :)

Besides, if you\'re unhappy about the current temporary GMs that only are there to do something which is easily done even without the powers, why don\'t you talk to the devs about it instead of just filing one complain after another without even giving a possible solution? (No, saying \"I think the GMs sux get some new ones\" isn\'t a possible solution. Try and be creative.) :)

However... There\'s no need to turn this thread into spam junk like all the other threads, just because of me. If you want to rant, you know where to find me. :)

I don\'t... I am always up for a good rant.

Anyway; I like to think that planeshift seeing as it is opensource will always be added to like linux. There will be no end to the features that could be added because there is no constraints - budget, deadlines, the experience of the team. It is open source - the team is anyone, they are not doing it for money but because they want to create an amazing game - not an easy to develop disney game that is churned off like some buggy unoriginal pile of ****, but instead a work of art. A game that shows you don\'t need a publisher and a 2 million dollar contract to make a truely immersive experience.

So yes, in my mind planeshift has the potential to become .hack//SIGN and even more. The only downside is the speed at which we can expect it to reach such amazing interactivity; it is easy to come up with endless ideas to add to realism and scope. But at the end of the day it requires manpower to impliment, when that manpower is unpaid and doing it out of the goodness of their hearts - it could take a very very very long time.

I just would like to see what the developers are planning to make, what I mean is I want to experience their original set-up before they get so complex they start making this game like others! If that makes any sense *shrugs*

It makes perfect sense (I think...). If I am correct, you believe that the more complex a game, the more like others it will become? *Shrug.*

I hope that PlaneShift will become different than any other game. Anything is possible.
