Will Klyros fly?
« on: May 01, 2004, 05:52:03 am »
Does anyone know when Klyros will be implemented and if they will be able to actually fly? I personally would like to be a Klyro.

the question isn\'t actually that bad, because last time i remember it was brought up, it wasn\'t really clear if they\'ll be able to actually fly or just glide a bit when they jump ...will it be a skill that you can train and so on.

snow_RAveN, chickens don\'t fly, yet they got wings. And ostriches are birds too, and they can\'t fly.

I think that all races will be implemented in CB, whether they\'ll be dropped or not, or be able to actually fly in CB, I don\'t know.

Klyros willl be designed to double jump from what I\'ve heard. So they will jump, and use there wings to gain a bit of hight/slow decent/jump further etc.

What about avoiding fall damage?

Chickens can and do fly, they just spend most of their time mucking about, pecking at the ground.

That would be useful if you could spread your wings in mid fall and glide to the ground instead of splatting :P

AFAIK they can\'t actually fly. They can flap their wings and jump, but they can\'t fly like birds.

Sounds a bit too unfair to me. That way they could jump from the stalagtite down to the bottom of the cave while others have to walk all the way down through the labyrinths

Of course it gives them an advantage, it\'s just that the advantage shouldn\'t be too great.

If it\'s slow decent \\ avoiding fall damage it should be height limited, so until a certain height it works, but from a that height the wings stop giving that advantage.

Chickens can and do fly

chickens only have the energy to get themselves about 10 ft off the ground , and couldnt support themselves up there for more than a minute. i dont know where you heard they they could, but i think youve attacked too many chickens on zelda....

and mabey if they only had the energy to hold theyre wings out for a limited ammount of time, yet as the skill increased, you oculd use it for longer, thus allowing you to glide from higher heights...

erm....last i checked, they -are- birds.

I have never played Zelda nor am i speaking of chickens in a game and I never said they could fly far. I said they could fly, and they can. They jump, flap their wings, and sail through the air for a distance......id say thats flying. Granted, their flying ability has been lessened with domestication, and they prefer to spend most of their time on the ground. The only birds that cant fly are penguins, ostriches, emus, and the like.

I know they\'re birds, that\'s why I used them as an example, and you know what I meant when I said they can\'t fly like birds.

But this really doesn\'t matter to the discussion, what I was saying when I gave them as an example for animals that got wings but can\'t fly. Call whatever they do flying, it doesn\'t matter.
What matters is that there are animals with wings that can\'t fly, so saying kylros have to fly because they got wings is wrong.

erm ...i guess we can stop argue if chickens are birds and wether they can fly
conclusions:
- chickens are birds
- chickens cannot fly anymore - at least not farther then a few metres.

[OT]Agreed, we got a bit OT, just felt the example of a chicken was a little off. I\'ll leave it alone now[/OT]

Back to the subject....they dont -have- to fly just because they have wings. Many dragons have vestigal[sp?] wings that they cant fly with, but Klyros will have limited flight abilities. Whether its just gliding or actual flying for a limited time is unclear though, i think.

It will be for a limited amount of time. I\'ve forgotten if there\'s stamina, but if there is, most likely you will only be able to slow your decent until your stamina runs out... then you go splat. :D

Haha thats exactly what I was thinking :D

Anywho, I quote from the site...

Nightvision. Fly for short time.  Breath underwater. Due to they nature they can\'t wear any kind of Heavy Armor.

So they can fly, how it will work I dont know, but I like the stamina idea. Your stamina would have to drop very quickly while flying so the Klyros won\'t have too big of an advantage...
