housing... made possible
« on: May 11, 2004, 01:29:49 am »
A lot of people have been talking about the fun

and advantages of player housing. With this the

conclusion has been that it is impossible for everybody i

in the game to have a seperate house, and im sure

nobody would like to live in a giant apartment complex.

But housing could still made possible but without public

acsess. This would consist of the player traveling to a

specified area and from there only HE could acsess HIS

house. This process would not be held on planeshift\'s

serverand would be an offline process in which you

could eat,

sleep, drink, train, etc.after you logged back in it would

be updated and you would spawn back in the specified

area in which you went to your house.IF it were

possible it would be cool if you could invite a freind or

co-own a house

The idea has been proposed.
This has already been discussed.
It is believed that the world will hold enough room for all requisite player housing.
Additionally, most housing will be rather expensive.

I\'m sure that if it becomes a problem, such a method\'s integration into the system is probable.

Idea has also already been used in Neocron... did anyone ever play it? or the open beta?  I kinda liked it.....

Train offline, talk about exploitable!  8o
Anyway, if the world would run out of space, the devs would just add a big new cave and a nice event in which it would be \'discovered\', problem solved. ;)

if there\'s offline interaction with your character, isn\'t there also a chance to hack the character? I don\'t wanna see anybody log to their house and come back five minutes later uber-powerleveled. that would suck badly

by the way, is there a more fitting term for powerleveling that doesn\'t imply leveling???

after all, this is a skill based game...

Good point ;)

Anywho, I think someone said earlier, alot of people will \"live\" with their guild in a guild HQ/Fortress/Tree Stand whatever. And buildings will be very expensive. I cant wait to see how building houses will actually work in PS...

there would have to be some sort of list of house styles - I don\'t think PS can support totally free form house designs

an artist would have to draw out each style house - maybe you would be able to control the colors or something

sounds like a lot of work

the archetech job will probably just be able to stick pre-formed peices together.

at some point those peices might be as small as walls but I don\'t think PS will ever be like sims

If you would be able to play

offline, it IS possible to hack your character

and change some stats, and than let the server update

everything. You could encrypt it, but since the source

code is free availible you can just look and decrypt

everything.  Housing would just not be cool is everybody

can afford a house. It must be a simbol of \"status\", and

ofcourse mostly guild can afford it! Just make the house

prices high so it would cost you atleast 3 months before

you can buy one. Or what about hiring? As soon as you

didn\'t pay for your house you\'ll lose it whther you have

items in it or not! you can\'t acces it and you have 1

month to pay the fee to get your house back. When

you doesn\'t pay anyone can hire your house. The items

that were currently stored in your house will be sold by

auction. The one that gaves the higest offer will get it.

How about something like in the sims where you build your house in \"squares\"? When you enter \"build mode\" you should see your house from above, and then be able to construct everything like a pattern which you then build on. You should also be able to set how many floors the house would have, add furniture to your house, set what type of house it should be (forest-hut, deluxe-apartment, Evil temple, Good temple, Castle etc.) That would be neat.

Hmmm, I get this strong feeling of Deja vu... :P

I was reading somewhere about post-CB plans, and they included houses (pre-fab, though) and the ability to buy furniture etc.  House owners would have to pay taxes as well as buying the house, so it\'s an ongoing expense, but you will be able to stash all your \"phat lewt\" there.

i think housing should be like you just buy a standard house, maybe just a little hut and you gradually buy more upgrades for it such as extra bedrooms bigger kitchen etc, to make your house really unique...
and about the kitchen, make your own meals and sell them in a little cart on the streets of Hydlaa...
that would be funny :)
