meh, sometimes I rp sometimes I don\'t, it depends on the company I\'m keeping, in AC most of my allegiance were non rpers, so I didn\'t much do the rp thing. but when I was with my hunting friends, we did the rp thing. we would go on a holy quest, slaying the mighty

I don\'t much care either way.

however, if you really want to stay in character, you can whisper to them that you are in character, and if he wants his character to be recognised by your character he must stay within role play boundaries

No! This is an RP Game, hack-n-slashers can leave if they don\'t like it. I think RPing should be somewhat enforced with GMs, but I think that the whole community should set a good example for the little mindless hackers-n-slashers.

I know when I played RS, I had a bunch of \"friends\" that were always like, \"dude I just lost my armor, can you gimme some rune, your loaded\" I always told em, no, go work for it. Go fish and actually make some money so you can buy yourself some rune.

Now, I know that RS has is the most limited amount of RPing possible, but If everybody encouraged the hackers to RP, they would feel like a minority and maybe (hopefully) at least try to fit in and RP. Thats my humble theory, its up to us to keep this game an MMORPG and not end up like runescape.

What if you have had a hard day at work and decide to jump on PS for some relaxation and you accidently forget to role play and get caught by a GM?

I think your digging your own grave by being so cold cut.

how exactly can you tell when someone\'s rp and when not?
Or do you guys mean kicking all 1337-talkers and other scum that behave like idiots?

Well if someone uses words created in the sixties and onwards such as \"dude, hip, yo, cool, wassup, etc\" then you know they\'re not RPing.

Anything can be dealt with ICly, even  the crashing of a computer. It\'s all a matter of education. However, the Devs should make it clear on the website that RPing will be enforced, if it will be.

aye, but some people can simply play, behave normally but all in all not rp... not a good reason to kick someone in that case.

In my opinion good move to encourage rp\'ing is to make GMs people that are great roleplayers.
No powergaming GMs

I never meant that GM enforcing should be that strict. My whole point of my last post was that if we set a good example, the 1337 crap will just fade away...

And if we do have official RPing enforcers, they should be somewhat lenient, only kicking when absolutely nessesary, and very rarely banning. They would mainly remind and warn those who are obviously not RPing. What I mean by that is...1337 talking, chatting about RL stuff, and asking stupid questions that have nothing to do with the game. I don\'t mean saying things like \"cool\" or \"dude\" because thats not really that big of a deal, and I think I will probably be found guilty

I think it would stink if we had banned words like ?cool? because that is so commonly used now a days that you would say it by accident if you ware not extremely careful, things like ?wow? & so on, I agree that if basically everyone uses rp language that & call people who use 1337 talk, everyone would label them a noob & they would get embarrass & not do it as much unless they are obnoxious. In that case no-one will like them & they may get banned for flooding the chat eventually?

I read something about having a separate channel for IC chat & so on? lots of discussion on this every ware?

I like that players decide what to do, usually like in a normal society, there is some behavior that is labeled ?uncalled-for? or ?low-class? etc. & they are usually shunned by society & have no respect?

IMHO, people could get warned for using 1337, or being offensive etc., but I feel that using a language closer to me, immerses me better into my role, if I use conventional RP-language, I feel awkward and distanced from my character, while if I use wording that is closer to what I would use in real life, I feel immersed and can enjoy the game more.

I guess what I\'m trying to say is that you can role-play without using the standards for role-playing language.
Thanks a lot Venge...

Yeah right, they don\'t have the brains to think of some scheme like that...they are hack-n-slashers after all...If they had any common sence at all, they would be RPers :D

I know how to prevent the problem entirely!
Loud, blaring classical music the first time you start up PS, and make it so it can\'t be shut off.  Rahaha!  :P

I agree with Icefalcon on the actual topic here.

Edit: You maybe, but among those gamer-gamers of my school, they would consider the music to be a sample of the edutainment to come, and would hit alt-f4 faster than Aendar can type a reply. (Which, if you\'ve never seen, can be extremely fast.)  Asides, I was joking!

you know, cirque has a point

so, my monarchy, who was mostly into getting online, chatting with friends about what\'s going on in their lives and having a hunting party while they were at it, is all a bunch of no brained morons??? well, I\'ll be happy to let them all know how you feel about them. they\'re some of the best friends I have, and honestly, from the conversations we have, some of the most intelligent. and while I\'m not averse to RP myself, I\'ll make sure to stay out of character when you\'re around just to annoy you.

now how does that sound.

just because someone doesn\'t play the same way you do doesn\'t make them anything less than you. if you have a problem with their chatting, put them on ignore. you put too much emphasis on the RPG and forget about the GAME. a game is about having fun, and if some people have fun discussing the dynamics of a hydrogen powered bomb, let them. some people get annoyed to see people rping, does that make you wrong? not at all, just let them play the way they will.

and monketh, how will classical music prevent the problem? it\'ll just make me wanna go all pk on everyone.
