Yes, I was thinking, and I still remember my very first rpg game that I played, and I think it set the stage for my love of gmaes and computors in general. I think I was about 5 years old, and we got this demo disc in the mail...some thing for CompuServe I think (Is that still around today?). Anyway it had this demo for Castle of the Winds. I had always showed an interest in computors at a very young age, in fact I screwed up a whole hard drive by messing around with files...installing things, deleting things, all with that old windows 2.whatever before Windows 95 came out. I eventually deleted almost all of the systems important files, and eventually it just...died. Anyway, Castle of the Winds was at that time the funnest thing I had ever played. (remember I was like 5-6 years old). You were this guy and you learned magic spells throughout the game. You killed monsters and they dropped items, coins, etc. Graphics were 2d, and there was almost no storyline at all, but it fits under the RPG genre. *sigh* good times :D

Anyways, what was the first RPG game you ever played? If you remember...

jeeze man, I\'ve been gaming since pong... remembering my first rpg is... well, damn near impossible... I remember a few though, several Dungeons and Dragons 1st ed computer games. all in like eight bit graphics. the one that really got me hooked was the original \"quest for glory\" by sierra. that\'s been a lot of years ago.

hate to get off topic here, but does anyone remember a computer game where you raised dragons from eggs? it was like an eighties SSI if I remember right...
we are the music-makers, we are the dreamers of dreams - Gene Wilder as willy wonka

Johnny Depp\'s a poser to the throne. No one will ever play the part as well as Gene Wilder

First RPG?  I think the first real RPG I ever played was FF7.  After that I was hooked.  To this day it still remains the best game ver created.

As far as classic RPG games (ie. Diablo, Baldurs Gate, etc.)  I was never a big fan of them.  Mainly because they seem too...stereotypical to me.  They all feel like the same game to me.

But yes FF7 was the first and best RPG I ever played.

When I was younger, I used to play Wizardry I, a new thing at the time. I still play it every once in a while. Personally, I don\'t like the way new games all have automaps. In Wizardry, you painstakenly map out levels on graph paper. I think that\'s one of the most fun aspects of the game.

The next two, I also remember, were Diablo and Exile II. Diablo was my first multiplayer RPG. I don\'t like the Diablo series much, and though I was hooked on it back then, I rarely play it now. The Exile series, I think, is a masterpiece, especially considering the technology available when it was made. I play Blades of Exile quite frequently.

Actually, I suppose they are RPGs, now that I think of it I also played a couple of the King\'s Quest series.  Those were great games.  I think I played I, V, and VII.  the first one was very very basic, but enjoyable.

Probobly the first RPGs I played were the King\'s Quest series as well.  One of the best early RPGs that I played that got me really hooked on the genre was the original Lands of Lore.  (Too bad the sequels weren\'t as good). Awsome graphics and gameplay at the time.

Does Zelda on the NES count?  If not that... then the Zelda game on the gameboy.... and then one on the SNES.... and if Zelda doesn\'t count at all, it\'s pry Secret of Mana.
Ninjas have feelings too.  Mostly they feel like dancing.

Secret Of Mana.

(Hence the name. \'Pogopuschel\' = \'Rabite\', see signature ;))

The Exile series is a masterpeice, not because of technology but they were darn entertaining.  Before that I played a couple dungeon-crawling things with hideous graphics on my mac classic, a little kings quest (more puzzle than RP, I guess.) and some text-based adventures... Most of my early programming adventures were dedicated to making a text-based RPG engine.  (all dismal failures, of course)
