Important! Less high end Planeshift

I really think Planeshift should have a version you can play right off the web page, that doesnt require a high end computer. Some people cant fit an ever growing one day up to 500 mb game. It would be good.

We could do that....if....

....You take out the weather, make the graphics more grainy, narrow down the choice of characters to 2 different characters, take out a huge chunk of the current city while never expanding on it, and finally, forget the whole concept of the game being 3d....

....then the game might actually run on a browser ;)

i think within another 14months and reasonable computer should be quite affordable but on the subject i think it would be kool if you could access the game in many different types of views such as grainy graphics or even in a 2d level where you can see the world in a 2d bird\'s eye vision while every one else could see you in 3d...this way you can play the game even if you have a 56k or perhaps even through your PDA or cell phone!

Doesn\'t seem reasonable. The devs probably want to concentrate on making the game decent and as close to an rpg in one form before even considering something else.

I don\'t see it happening either, I mean, there are many far more important things for the developers to consider, like say, content...

it takes a long time to create things like story lines, quests, in game objects, terrain, Npc personalities, economy... etc. etc. etc. and that\'s only a small percentage of the things they have to do

if they\'ve got a functioning engine, I can\'t see them creating another just so you can play it from your browser. it would be a tremendous waste of time on their part, I would imagine that they\'re just as eager as everyone else to see a working product out as soon as possible, and I don\'t know if they would care to bother doing something that moot.

omg, I download like 1.5Gb a day, at least....
You think 500mb is big? Most games are over 1gb now anyway, so most pc\'s can handle it.

Well, I have been working this out for a little wile before this thread & I came up with Shockwave3D! I exported what was originally going to be my test WorldFile & Decided to export to Shockwave3D & Play around with it a little. I got this very quickly, it?s a small place with some textures, but I didn?t texture the treetops yet.

I made basic movement:
[Up] [Down]
&
  • (for Camera Reset).


I haven?t yet figured out gravity or Avoidance, but I think I can get a pre-made script somewhere? as for the MMORPG, I have played some mmog?s that run in Shockwave3D but I do not have a server right now?

You can set things like optimize the Textures & Geometry For fast loading & performance. Anyways, Here it is:

I am sorry if ShockWave3D is not supported on your computer?
I originally worked on this for sharing World files with people in the chat rooms?

Edit: You can Export already made World files from 3DsMax format directly to Shockwave3D! so making new geometry/textures is not a problem?

They made a game like that, it\'s called racoonscape, or wait, was it crooncape, or maybe Boon of The Apes.

More and more often, quik, games have been growing to a size of ~.8GB.  Many exceed that.  It is highly improbable a \"Planeshift-Lite\" will ever exist.

The answer to the problem is simple: stop using a computer left over from the \'90s.  My brother just saw an ad for two gig\'s of RAM on a laptop.  Last time I checked a new HD of about 30 gig\'s cost 90 bucks. ($90USD)

Or \"Planeshift-Classic\". I hope rats nest in runescapes servers and get electricuted and die and get caught on fire and burn their building to the ground in a blaze of glory. Then ill be there with a bag of marshmellows to cook on the flames.

Have to agree that web-based planeshift doesn\'t sound all too good to me...You don\'t really need high end computer to run planeshift...more over next version should take less computer capacity...

well it does sound cool, if you forget that high end computer part for a bit and you start thinking about people that are working, like me.
this way you can play the game while at work, communicate in game while at work, all that is a great addition, maybe a bit hard to realise, but it should be doable if you find the right people for it.
