mini games
« on: May 23, 2004, 10:16:05 pm »
i think mini games such as card collecting games would be nice to have and not boring one but rather ones that u can use to compete that are similar to magic the gathering or yugioh or something like that

Yugioh. Ergh. :P

I would like a card game, but not a complex one such as the current ones, but a more simple and fun one such as the card games of FFIIX, FFIX and FFXI. That would be really nice, in my opinion, and wouldn\'t be as difficult to implement.

I agree with Gold. I\'m a Big Final Fantasy fan myself and would love to see a card game like that in Planeshift. Maybe even something simple as collector cards might be nice.

What also might be fun (and probably wouldn\'t take too much work if done right) would be team games similar to soccer, basketball, etc. Just make a ball to be used and make up your own team game on the city streets or in a premade court. I\'m sure that type of thing would would work well in a medieval setting. (as long as the ball didn\'t look like a modern day basketball or something ;) )

one word...
PAZZAK!!
very fun game :)

or maybe we could just have standard playing cards (hearts diamonds etc) and have certain games implemented for them

or maybe a game similar to the ones on puzzle pirates where there is a tetris style battle where there are solids blocks coloured yellow, blue, red and green and you need a non solid block of that colour to remove that colour of blocks and all the ones of the same colour that are connected. multiplyers can also be awarded for setting off chain reactions. just removing a non interesting random arangement will result in \'sprinkles\' where gray blocks will fall on the enemies board and will change to a random asortment of colours after 2 blocks have been dropped. then if a block formation is made (a box atleast 2x2) when destroyed it will cause a \'sword\' to fall on the enemies board and will be gray untill 2 blocks have been dropped.
i cant be bothered explaining this further so if you want to know more go and play puzzle pirates (but dont get addicted! ps needs you :P)

there is also a matching type game where you have to make a path across the board without the other players stoppping you

and then there is the standard chess
8o that made me think of a new game!
how about chess where you have to collect your pieces and each piece has its own movement restrictions and abilities. you would declear a piece (usually your weakest i guess) your king then the game would be just like standard chess.
*dreams of whole board of rooks* :]

srry, lost my control..
anyway, where you smack your opponents to death and then claim your reward :P

Mini-Games Suggestions:
Lol Xanaroth: I am thinking of more traditional mini-games if you don?t mind:

Board & Strategy:

Chess: I think it would be extremely cool to have a working 3D Chess game in PS, although that would take some doing, but it would fit perfectly. (Maybe I?ll make some chess pieces.) It would be nice for anywhere & you could passable purchase a chess set of your own or use the public ones in town or something? Also Animated Chess pieces that are magically enhanced would look cool but not necessary? This game will attract Kings & Peasants alike!

Armada (BattleShip?): There are many different versions of this game obviously, but I would like to see the version that the old pirates used to play! That would be a great game for PS & it?s been played for hundreds of years I think? I can?t seem to find a good version of the game to serve as an example. But I don?t exactly think Battleship is the armada that the old pirates played after they got to old to go out on the open sea?

Card & Chance: I would think since you can roll a dice in-game that we will defiantly use them in games of some sort, I would think for games of Luck that the Lucky  stat would have a heavy influence on the outcome of a game & I would like to see stats of Luck improve after playing one of these games? & if someone is Jinxed then it lowers the luck of the person(s) they are next to?

War: Since I am on a pirate theme I suggest the card game War!. It is a very simple card game, the Deck is shuffled & each player given equal cards. You all Draw a Card @ the same time & whoever has the highest value card wins. If 2 cards of equal value are drawn, each player places 1 or 2 cards face down on top & draw another card to be compared. The winner takes all the Cards. The object is to get all of the card & or have the most cards after a certain # of turns?

Various Other Card Games: Obviously there are many card games, I would like to try to find some not so well known Card games from long ago & put them in the game? it would be fun to also be able to play card games & other games for money, but that may not be a good idea?

A Roll of the Dice: I am not particularly knowledgeable about the history of dice games, but I would like to learn some of the really early ones. I think that it would be good to have dice games but not the modern ones. & I wouldn?t really like to see a casino type place, but if we had a larger Tavern we could have that be a good place to find people to play games with? Dice is already implemented & I would like to know, does anyone know a fun dice game we could play in MB right now? Also, I would like to see some creative things with the Cards & Dice, like now we usually have 6-sided dice but maybe Yliakum dice are usually 5 or 9 sided?

Others: Archery is a Must! That would fit perfect with the PS theme! Also I was thinking you can improver you ranged weapons skills & stuff @ a training place were you can also compete against other people. There has been other games like tart discussed in other places too?

This is getting very long so I will wrap it up. I hope We have these games in-game :P Who else has Mini-Game suggestions?

ok, i really like the idea of the chess game by implementing your own pieces...

i\'m thinkin of a game where you can collect the pieces from around the main game/trade etc...and each piece would have its own unique characteristics such as race,class,level(max10),element or it could be a monster and so on...then on a board you could place say 5-7 pieces with each piece having their own movements and abilities on a board and with that you could do strategy games  such as wiping out the opponent or capture the flag and bring to your home base or somethin... with this you could even have multiplayer games team up or free for all and so on

I\'d stick with the card mini-game or something like blitz ball, that was such a awesome mini-game on ff10

I just want a minigame that\'s some how connected to the overall play of the game like being able to compete in a world-wide tornament or some thing that would give it some kind of financial value so its actually worth compromising your time in collecting the cards/pieces cuz ithink if u make it like a strategy game it could also be a factor for raising intelligeance or somethin...and i think blitz worked really well with ff10 b/c of the time setting and due to its originality and game play but in a mmorpg where there are thousands of players or even millions for that matter it probably wouldn\'t work too well...

sounds like a mini version of dungeon keeper

i dont really like the idea od chess pieces having levels but it would be better if they have different movement patterns and there would be no things like queens, rooks or bishops that can move across the whole board

or we could have it with 3 pieces with a 3 character system type thing where mage beats knight, knight beats archer, archer beats mage etc

The Yliakum Cartomancers already tried to do a CCG (collectable card game) based on planeshift, but a few of the devs agreed that a CCG alone wasn\'t original enough for the realm, and even cards at all. So dont expect cards games, period.

We then tried to do something funky with marbles, but then I realized I was the only one who visited the forums anymore. Talking to yourself is lonely. :P
Beware that I am distorted in my wording if you do not understand me at all.

Fun Dice Game:
« Reply #13 on: May 27, 2004, 01:19:38 pm »
Ok, each player places an equal amount of money on the board, & then Each player Rolls 6 Dice. You can choose to keep any Dice you want before re-rolling, but you have to take @ least 1. to qualify for a round you Must have a 1 & a 4, & then you want to get the highest number possible (24). You can re-roll as many times as you want until you have kept all your dice. The best score is 6,6,6,6=24 (the 1&4 do not count towards your score however if you do not have both you automatically loose)

- I would definitely like to see this game & it probably wouldn?t be too hard to implement. I would think if the server dropped you then you would withdraw from the match, however this could be abused. We could also make it played with different sided dice like 7 sided or something?

i don\'t think it\'s possible to create a 7 sided fair dice IRL, but maybe with a bit of magic...
