How to use player made skins
« on: May 24, 2004, 06:11:35 pm »
I am very interested in learning how to use player made skins, as I am sure a number of other new players would too.

So some tech-savvy wizz post how to do it here.

It\'s pretty much the same in every game. Go to the folder with the graphics, and use your logic for finding the right files.

Tip:
You should have some 3d making program at hand (like gmax), load the model of the character that you want to change it\'s texture, and load the texture on it.
Now you can see how the texture goes on the character.
What I do from here, is paint parts in the texture in very contrasted colors (strong pink, blue, yellow, red, lime, black, white, etc). Then load them on the model.
Play with it a bit until every part of the body got a diffrent color. E.g. Left leg is yellow, right arm is blue, face are red, etc.

So now there\'s the skin base, and each part is seen very clearly even without loading the texture on the model in every small change. In Photoshop you can make the layers less opaque (only for convinient viewing), that way you can put one layer ontop the base layer, and edit the top layer (wich is half transparent) according to the color code.

It may seem like alot of work atfirst, but if you plan to make more than one skin, and to view the texture in an easy way, it really pays off.

Edit: Draklar beat me to it :O

I have copies of [Windows] 3.1, 3.11, 95, and 98, too. Not to mention various versions of MS-DOS

Ok I copied some kran skins and some male cat-man (not sure what the races name is) skins to there repective folders. The skins are there in the folder, but when I go to character creation, they don\'t show up.

The only skins that show up are the default skins.

Should I rename the files or something? Or what?

Just copying the files you made into the folder won\'t help. The game don\'t know you wanted these files :P
You need to replace them with the existing ones (replace the one of the Kran with the existing Kran texture file, and the Enki one you made with the existing Enki texture file)

Awesome. They work. Thank you.

I\'m still not satisfied though.

Must... have... Klyros.

By the by, are there any sites with skins posted?
