OpenGL Mode Troubles
« on: May 25, 2004, 12:49:24 am »
Here are my system specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+ running at 1.6GHz
1GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9200 Video Card
Windows XP Home Edition

I reinstalled Planeshift on my PC today.  I can run it in the slow mode but I cannot run it in OpenGL mode.  Basically, once I click on the OpenGL mode option I get just a blank black window and when I look at my running processes, Windows indicates that it is Not Responding.

I used to have Planeshift on my PC prior to upgrading my RAM and videocard and was able to at least hear sound and jarbled graphics when I ran OpenGL mode though basically I could\'t use it so had to use the slow mode.  Anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing my problem?

As mentioned.. Slow mode works but it is well.. Slower than I\'d like it to be.

Thanks in advance.

Odd.. the only thing I can think of is that your video card is not agreeing with opengl. Maybe if you downloaded a better driver it would work better? Seems a bit odd that it completely crashes.

Ok.. right after posting I attempted to open the game in OpenGL mode.. same thing happened with the black screen.  Well, I went to dinner and when I came back the create, load, quit screen was up.  I went into the game, played around for about 10 min and found it to be a bit laggy.  Someone suggested that I log into safe mode.  Well I attempted to shut down and the program gave me some error box (couldn\'t read it because the screen went wacko) and I shut down the process manually.  I attempted to login to Open GL mode again and it loaded up instantly so I\'m guessing that maybe it just takes awhile the first time and after that it\'s ok (who knows).

But, now I\'m getting a message stating that there is an error in the database for my account *sighs*  Now what?

Thanks

No, the \"intializing world\" stage can take up to 2 hours on some computer the first time it runs... there shouldn\'t be that much of a delay for the openng screen. There is a short pause- maybe a minute at most. COuld be your computer couldn\'t load the title picture, and so the screen was blank. Oh, and windows often reports PS as \"not responding\" even if it is working right.

As for error in account there\'s a thread just for that error.
