Time after you die and before you transcend
« on: May 26, 2004, 03:48:24 am »
Okay, its pretty clear by now, that when you die you ascend into the death world, whatever you want to call it. This hasn\'t been mentioned but I think for a game like this, when you die you would be given 10 minutes for someone to bring you back to life. Of course that person doesn\'t have to bring you back to life. And if you aren\'t revived in 10 or so minutes then you ascend into the death world. Of course when your revived your at minimal HP.

edit: Or maybe even 5 minutes.

Then what happens once you enter this \"death world\"? How does one leave this place?

You fight your way out... ;)

the first time you die you are a level one character again...

You have as much to do in the world of the dead as the world of the living.  they are like two parallel worlds.  But with different quests...

There are different entry points into the world of the living some areas where it is easy to leave the death worlds it is just as easy to enter like the 147th level of a dungeon found in the labyrinth...

Other areas that are harder to leave in the death world would pop you out in a temple or some place safe.

Or you could be revived by some powerful magic on the other side.

When you are revived you will return to where ever you body  is and if you die again you appear where you were in the last time you were in the death world when you were revived.

(I think this would be cool I don\'t know if it is the answer Kuiper would have chose)

Now all I need to do is figure out what happens when you die in the death world.

I think it\'s a good idea that you got a short time in wich you can get revived before you decend to the death world, but both 10 mins and 5 mins can be very very boring if you know there\'s no one around to revive you.
I think that while waiting for someone to revive you you should be able to press a button or something that decends you to the death world without having to wait.

Are you guys talking about lying dead, not being able to move, for 5 or 10 minutes??? It cant be that way...it would be too boring. You should be able to walk around in death until somebody decides to revive you...
And you shouldnt be able to fight when youre dead, it would be too weird if you could die first in life and then in death.

Death world is the place where you go when you die, I forgot which dev told us this. Anyways Redmonk had a good idea, you either stay in the death world OR someone revives you while your in the death world.

What happens if no one revives you? Are you forever damned to this land of the dead? If so, screw that.

Sounds to me like you guys PLAN on dying. And why can\'t we all go to heaven??

Every time someone advances the technology of communication, it\'s only a matter of time until someone uses it to get laid.
I\'d give PS about 12 more months or so...

Perhaps all the devs are athiasts. Would be good to have a heaven and a hell. Or places similar. The PKing system could be incorporated into it.

Now that ive tossed that one up someone else can catch it and run with it. Then ill jump on the band wagon a few posts later.

i liked world of warcrafts idea where there are 3 options

1 you instantly get revived at the last place you binded at with a slight experience loss but you cant lose a level like this

2 you wait for someone to ressurect you at your corpse

3 you go back to the last place you binded at with no experience loss but you are a ghost who sees the world differently and have to get back to your corpse to get revived. and like some monsters are meant to be able to attack  but most cant see you, and players cant see you

maybe the third one could be the death realm because you are dead and you can find your way out of the death realm by finding your way back to your body.

i like this idea because i can understand it

Heaven and hell are far too common. I\'d prefer something like the pagan Summerlands anyway ;) Shouldn\'t try too hard to mirror real-life mainstream ideas. I thought the devs have decided on what happens after death, however? Since combat is being implemented in CB, after all.

Im sure your resourceful enough to look up what the word athiast means.

So its just a common understanding that we shouldn\'t try to hard to mirror real-life mainstream ideas? Just like the colour red is red.

Even though if the idea was explored it could provide something unique and original.

Cirque, I -am- an atheist :) I\'m well-aware of what the word means, what misconceptions commonly arise, where the word came from, what meanings became attached to it over the years, etc., etc. Theism (and the lack of it) is one of my little passions. I\'ve done more study than you know ;)

And back on topic.

\"So its just a common understanding that we shouldn\'t try to hard to mirror real-life mainstream ideas? Just like the colour red is red.\"

I fail to see how the color red is a real-life mainstream idea. Perhaps you simply didn\'t understand what I was trying to say. Heaven and hell are nowadays specifically attached to Christianity, and thoughts of it arise when I think of those two words. PS is meant to be something a little more unique and original. Just as it has its own deities, I would think that it has its own versions of concepts of the afterlife. Perhaps there could be a realm for \"good\" and \"bad\" individuals, but then you get the messy situation of trying to define good and bad and trying to figure out a way to messure \"goodness\" and \"badness\" so that people go where they are supposed to after death, which is really too much of a hassle.

On top of that, I honestly don\'t know how you could make a heaven and hell original, and still have those two words retain their original meaning.
