The Mercenary Guild: Profit Through Conflict
« on: June 04, 2004, 07:25:38 pm »

?There is one certainty, and that is death?

The greatest battle a warrior must face is the battle against fear.  All who take the life of the mercenary have emerged victorious from this conflict.  When death is no longer feared, an obstacle becomes a tool.  This tool shall not be used in the name of politics, honour, justice or love.  The services of the Guild may only be
called upon in exchange for currency.  A life is worthless, until a bounty is placed upon it.  Beyond that, your motivations are not our concern.

?Death is the only law, and we are its masters?

Our world is one of chaos, not order, and strength inevitably triumphs ? the Guild is a bastion of strength and, inevitably, it shall triumph.  If you are weak, our strength may be purchased.  The guild offers a range of services, a range of prices, and a range of operatives.  The harder the job, the higher the price; the more experienced the operative you choose to employ, the more you must pay.  Espionage, guild wars, body guarding, armed escort, garrisoning ? all are within our abilities, as long as they are within your budget.  If you have the gold, we have the steel.

?We are a brotherhood of blood?

Be aware, that while the Guild is above the petty squabbles of politics, and its primary motivation is the pursuit of wealth, its members are loyally bound to each other through their knowledge of pain.  Treachery shall not be tolerated, whether between members or from outsiders.  The pride of the Guild shall at all times be maintained, and shall be mortally defended by its champions if it is challenged.  Therefore, do not doubt that to cross us is to welcome death, no matter how much you can pay.

This is a short summary of the key points about our guild:

- The Mercenary Guild is a combat guild. (combat skills Are what we pride ourselves on)

- We are open to nearly any type of character as long as they can handle themselves in a fight; this includes both competent warriors, magic-users and stealthy rouges. Essentially the Mercenary guild holds combat skills (including magic), followed by stealth as the most important attributes to becoming a good mercenary.

- Merchants will not be accepted into the guild. Other proficiencies such as healing will be accepted.

- We are neutral; in terms of world politics, the good vs. the bad, the shifting of power between guilds; none of these things concern us, and we will not involve ourselves unless paid to do so.

- We will protect our own interests. Anyone who interferes with our aims or goals will be dealt with. Put simply, someone taking potential customers is biting into potential profit.  As such competitor mercenaries/defenders are treated as enemies.

- Members will be expected to train as much as possible when there is no mission, on top of this they will be expected to role-play, remain active and finally represent the guild to the best of their abilities.

- The aim of the guild is wealth. We are a business fraternity; we seek to make the mercenary market as profitable as possible, and as consumer friendly as we can.

---------
There has been a few changes in the Mercenary Guild. We have lost our founder and Legend, Zephyrus. The Guild Hierarchy has been changed slightly, the Guild is now ruled by the Council of Champions. And the website has had some content and graphical improvements. We are accepting anyone to become an Apprentice, but you must prove yourself worthy before becoming an actual member.

Also, If you want to hire the Guild for a character portrait, signature, or whatever, please visit our forums.

This update is actually important and needed. A lot has changed. Important members like Zephyrus have left the guild and new members (like me) have entered. The site went through some changes too. The slogan too...
If we die we still get paid. Also, I know you want the worst spelling award, but sometimes you just gotta let it go.

I think what Icefalcon really means is that it\'s not annoying...so you can remove it :)

Ah, it never even crossed my mind that he wanted to be annoying, I mean, how many people want others to dislike them? It just doesn\'t make sense in my mind.

Anyway, I will soon be back with full force as my comp is just out of the shop and I need to get some info from my ISP to get the internet working again. 8)

Sorry, sorry, further complications have prolonged my internet inactivity. And I am not sure right now how this is gonna turn out... my life is still flashing before my eyes, as it has been for months. You have no idea what agony and depression I have been going through.

But anyway, yes we do have a new member, welcome to Pussimus.

So why are you not unaligned then? For me neutral is something between good and evil, law and chaos,... Neutral is rather an opinion about how the world should be, instead of some kind of apathy.

Actually, when I think of neutral, it means neither good, nor evil. We do not support the forces of good, nor the forces of evil, unless we are paid.

Some definitions...
Neutral

-\"Not aligned with, supporting, or favoring either side in a war, dispute, or contest.\"

-\"Belonging to neither kind; not one thing or the other.\"

-\"One who takes no side in a controversy\"

So unless we are paid to temporarily switch to one side, we are nuetral. There have been many conflicting views concerning what a neutral alignment really is, so I don\'t think there is really a clear definition.

Just a thought - perhaps instead of alliances you could have preffered customers who get special discounts and in return they could give you a discount on their wares; like armour or weaponary. Or they could help you erradicate \"competition mercenaries\"...
Or alternatively have some kind of store credit system, like \"you scratch our back, we\'ll scratch yours\".

I mean with that arrangement you can still sell tham out as its more of a buisiness deal than a pact.

Hmm, yes, I will mention this to the other Champions. That sounds like a good idea Zeph.

We also have a couple new members, though they have gone inactive already. Go figure...

Q: How many Planeshifters does it take to expalin a simple concept to a newb?
A: Six. Five to argue on who\'s explanation is right, and Moogie to lock the thread.
