It isn\'t protesters from the \"minor\" countries--it\'s people from the G8 countries themselves--so I don\'t think it is jealousy.

It isn\'t a meeting of the top 8 biggest businesses, or else it would make sense that people are protesting against business.

The same people who protest the G8 tend to like the UN and the EU.  What is the difference?

Oh well...

I agree this is a complicated issue. But i highly doubt protesters were invited in the G8. The G8 is exactly the opposite: a meeting of *only* the big pro-business countries.

When i said jealousy, it was to explain one of the reason ( and clearly the most stupid) of why people hate America (and to a lesser extent, UE).

It is the reunion of the 8 country that could do the most to avoid unilateral business (ie. draining poor country ressources) and that don\'t do anything.

The UN is the institution that could represent the most \'a world democracy\'. Of course, people criticize the system of permanent members that remove a lot of power from small countries. I don\'t see why it should be hated. It isn\'t a pro-business institution like the WTO (this one is really hated imho).

The UE governement is not really liked in Europe. A part of us say this is a door that will let anti-social business laws be decided. Another part thinks this will be a protection against big business groups. And the majority of people don\'t care.

I know that. What I was saying is that the protestors should become educated - become politicians, business men, representatives, researchers, etc. It is only when they are called upon to provide expert analysis within the G8 meetings that their ideas will be taken seriously or even considered at all. And in order to get invited into the G8 meetings in the first place, your views have to be respected and seen as that of a professional in the field. Change can only come from within, not from outside of closed doors.

What they are doing now is meaningless and only causes trouble without getting the G8\'s attention. You can shout (rhetorical and brain dead) slogans all day, but the only thing that does is make your throat sore and annoy the local police.
