hi. i am an OO novice. it takes awhile to get oriented to PS i understand. and im not really sure how much time, etc., i could do soon anyways.

im mostly concerned about the ide\'s u all are using.  i found most ide\'s to b, well, a joke. is everyone using a notepad style ide where they type 90% of everything?

i checked into some java ides, netbeans and ibm\'s free one.

sry, gotta go. will edit after while.

I believe most of the Windows-using devs are using Visual Studio.  The linux types use gcc & their editor of choice.  For CS & PS on Mac OS X, I use Apple\'s Project Builder to edit and gcc to compile, gdb to debug.

I haven\'t tried Eclipse (from IBM) but I hear it\'s both pretty decent and cross platform.  What do you mean by \"most ide\'s are a joke\"?

Thanks,
Daniel

I think he was expecting something like the VB interface. Form designers and such. You can do such a thing with MFC and QT, but not for Planeshift. There are model development tools however.

100%.

To be completely 100% multi platform, we can\'t use MFC, neither can we use GTK directly.

PlaneShift has an own Windows System named PAWS that we use, but it\'s all code.

If you were looking for something like forms and interactive designers where you just click 2 times and you get a fully functional toolbar or something, you\'ll get disapointed.

hi again.

well, it just seems like there could be some algorithims or something, working behind the scenes, to figure out what may be needed next. or even to drag n drop & point n click for some stuff. i mean, im a newb & can think of lots before i even know whats most useful...

anyways, if anyone has any plugins, etc..

im thinking ill start my ide plugins in java, since its faster & easier. but for the minimum for me to start programming on non-ide plugin will take me awhile.

is the java api in a bean yet? ill look, but it seems too common sense. it would only take a very short time for a pro programmer to make a script or exe to convert it all to a bean, right? dunno, been long time since i read what makes a bean different.

if there was a sticky that could maybe have the most recent news prog. may be interested in. like where such & such is going, whats being worked on & timeframe.

(btw, i had 8-bit atari & ran bbs in early-mid 80\'s, read compute! mag. i dont know any programmers. are there female programmers?
