Graphics
« on: June 18, 2004, 02:45:40 am »
I know nothing about 3d graphics, nothing about 2d graphics, and heck, I can\'t even draw a square.

But I\'m afraid that since the updates are taking years and years, the current graphics will be outdated FAST. But I dunno how long it takes to improve and remake graphics =/

W/O gameplay, graphics are nothing more then a nice picture. ;(

The devs have forever to develope the graphics. They just need to work on the gameplay aspect, first. Once that\'s done, im sure we\'ll all get a good fill of pixel-shaders and ray-traced lighting. ;)
Precious and beutiful, it is happy. The only time when it is not is when it is in a shape of a tear.

P.S Better graphics would be nice though but lets fix that lag first :))

but the thing is, if you increase the graphics too much you loose half your players

i dont want this to be a game aimed at high end computers

I seem to remeber that a dev said that they wanted to create something that was the equivilent to a boxed game, though this would probably be limited by the fact that you need to be able to download it.

I\'d like to point you to Ryzom Online (or whatever it\'s called) which is claimed to be a Beta MMORPG (hack&slash, more likely). This Beta game is a 980MB download which will only increase in size as the game grows, and you know... We can only expect the same thing from PlaneShift. Already in CB, there will be an approximate download of ~200MB, with the additional updates every so often (almost every day). This will just keep adding to the size, and keep in mind that PlaneShift is Alpha. Size will increase a lot.

Well if you had just the slightest knowledge about why the updates are taking that long, you would know that it is because AB and MB were simple tech demos. CB is the first real alpha version, and the devs have had to rewrite just about everything. Combat, Magic, etc. and they have added about as much as they have rewritten. This takes a long time if you are not a team of 100 coders working 8+ hours per day on a paid project. Keep that in mind. As for the long updates, I can assure you that it will be much faster in the future (somewhere around daily updates unless they\'re adding big features).

As for the graphics, again, keep in mind MB and AB were simple tech demos. In fact, it wasn\'t even sure that they should\'ve been released, but they were so people could have something to look at while waiting for a more stable thing instead of looking at nothing at all. The graphics will improve along with everything else. Don\'t worry about that.

No need to complain about things you have no clue why is wrong in the first place. :)
