Power Gaming
« on: June 24, 2004, 06:14:16 am »
I found this article on SomethingAwful.com that deals with Powergamers. I thought it was very funny and I was curious how the Planeshift community thought about powergaming. So, what do you think? Good or bad?

There\'s really nothing wrong with powergaming.  It\'s just that most powergamers are incredibly arrogant and disrespectful.  Getting absorbed in a game and spending every waking moment playing it isn\'t bad.  But combining that with thinking that your better than everyone else is.  In fact getting absorbed in an MMORPG is actually a good thing, it allows for more in depth and realistic roleplaying.  And luckily powergaming isn\'t too bad a problem with MMORPG\'s and definently won\'t be a problem in PS as we will have GMs in-game to moderate player\'s actions.

Yeah, I like to powergame sometimes, simply because it\'s fun to get a group of friends together and go on a long bloody hunt. As long as people don\'t start griefing other players, I don\'t see any problem with it at all. So yeah, I agree with Aendar.

Well I have a bunch of thoughts.

For one, that article is freakin hilarious, hehe. Except for the racial Korean remarks >:(.

As for powergamers, the only problem I have with them is that they are so obsessed with their game of choice that they shun ANYONE who -slightly- gets in the way of their full concentration. Anything else that might be wrong with their intelligence, common sense, etc. probably doesn\'t have to do with powergaming =D

Pheh, powergaming. I don\'t see the need or fun of it. I think that anyone who powergames just for the need to prove that  (s)he is better than other people must have a superiority complex and should go see a psychologist or a psychiatrist. It\'s quite a problem, actually.

Then again people might just find it fun. Powergaming in RL is the worst. People who spend hours a day at the gym?

i usually powergame for the first week or so when i start a new character, just to get out of that stage where you can do almost nothing because your not strong enough. then i usually just hang around the towns and roleplay or find a big group of people to hunt with

i just hate it when you start a game and can do absolutely nothing, hopefully ps wont be like this

Spends at least five hours determining their character\'s precise course of advancement and item optimization up to the level ceiling before making a serious attempt at character creation.

Hmm Powergamer. I\'m not really a powergamer. They should have one that says, \"Rather play MMORPG than have sex with an incredibly hot woman or man depending on your preference.\"
My name is NOT pronounced, \"Kway-per,\" it\'s pronounced \"Kye-per.\"

This doesn\'t apply to PS, because unlike most big games it\'s been public way before beta. What they meant was fully established guild before the first public stage.
Anyone knows about a guild that was established before AB? :P
